Depends on where you want to place them really.

I've heard about people replacing specific posts on their Data East Rocky & Bullwinkle with these.

Thanks Ian,
I want to throw a bit of UV light onto the center art.
Its UV reactive paint so Im going to try use these leds http://www.pinballcenter.eu/catalog/noflix-post-light-black-light-p-2349.html?language=english with the star posts.
Hopefully its subtle enough !

It won't be original if he adds star posts, data east machines use metal posts around the slings etc.

That's part of the reason i've not done mine yet.

I'm torn - I originally thought it HAD to be authentic but the more I look at those photos on Pinside the more I think I prefer the star posts over the originals.

It's reversible so just do it.

I dont care about mods as long as they are reversible.

It is your machine, if you want to change it to something that you prefer and it is reversible then you won't have any arguments from most people.
If you have a super cool idea to throw UV light in there then I say "we need pictures".

Some years ago I fitted out my DE Tommy with Williams style star posts and mini posts ......just look a million times better than the dreary grey plastic DE posts that were factory.

The only thing you need to check is that it doesn't affect ball movement ...eg. a star post is slightly bigger than a mini post and so could potentially narrow a ball lane enough to cause hangups.

I've always found that on data east machines you often get dead bounces off the top of the slings, is this because of the metal posts or the black rubbers? I have the proper half height rubbers around them and the actual sligshot rubber in the groove.

Thinking it might be deadening the bounce but then maybe the ball isn't contacting it anyway, not sure!

I foolishly followed the manual when I re-rubbered lw3.

Still trying to work out what they do myself. They look good though if nothing else.
