I've installed some 5.25 inch speakers on my machine as part of a speaker lights upgrade. I was probably more looking to achieve the round speaker looks than upgrade sound, as I was happy with what was in there. I still think the stocks sound better, with a nicely balanced mid-range and separation but that's not my immediate concern.
The speakers are 4 ohm each. By default, the Stern is set to 8 ohm but you can adjust to 4 ohm. However, when I do that the sound gets pretty trashed - all mid-range is lost, so I'd rather still with the 8 ohm setting.
Bearing in mind that I never go higher than 12-14 on the volume, so I'm not really blasting it out, will leaving it on 8 ohm overheat the amp?
Please bear in mind that I'm not the least bit technical, and that I could lose a lifetime trying to draw a conclusion from the posts on Pinside. But I'd be grateful for some thoughts.
