Well this is a new one on me.

Have a Sega Goldeneye.

When the ball drains and end of ball bonus screen appears the middle part of the DMD shows nothing/ghosting.

See photo.

Rest of time display is perfectly fine.

This issue also crop up when screen telling you to go for satellite dish shows up.

And it is EVERY time those screens appear, not intermittent.

It’s almost like the software is corrupted or something for those particular screens - though I’m sure this cannot be the case - but then it is weird why the display is absolutely fine the rest of the time,

Anyone have any ideas please?

Thanks

Andy

Is there any other point in playing where the screen is that fully utilised??
Yep. Plenty of times. E.g. scoring in game etc. no issues at all on those screens.

Did you try another display? You could measure the voltages on the display board while this happens (Careful!). Reseat the flat cables. The inverse lines in display check are fine, too?

Tried reseating cables. No change.

Inverse lines fine.

Don’t have a spare display to test it with.

Looking at pinwiki, it's probably starting to de-gass (or outgass as they call it).
This was also in my thoughts but if it were the case then I don’t think it would be specific screen/image degassing. As I say, all other screens are fine - it’s just the end of ball bonus screen and one other where the image does not display correctly.

Not a ROM issue for sure, that would manifest in diferent ways. Display is probably getting old and overloading the power supply, just surprised it works with inverse lines. Please see what the voltages do when this happens.

I recall there was a PIN2DMD issue in the past that was caused by a dodgy ROM - maybe some bits somewhere had got flipped? Enough to break the image but not the game logic? - upon replacing the ROM, the problem was resolved.

Have seen on Sega or data east where they use shading by dropping the voltage. Is the image on those 2 slides a half power bit? Could be either the driver board or an outgassing display.

Yes, but that lost the display altogether with some random pixels lit. This looks like a failing display or power board.

Thanks for all the help/suggestions thus far.

I’m going to borrow another display to try with it next week.

Will update after.

So I tried another Display in it but that did not work at all. It was a Cherry, same as original but different model.

Ended up buying a ColorDMD. Had issues with that - see other technical post but that resolved the dodgy graphics issue.

Not sure if it was display or display power supply issue though, obviously, because ColorDMD does not us HV but will get someone to try the display at some point.
