So men can be women and women can be men……in comps so what about kids?

So what about kids as was mentioned in the locked thread? I have a couple of grandchildren who play in the South Wales league, last year and this year.
Should they have some kind of special situation? I’m talking about a 9 year old and 11 year old currently.

They both came virtually last in the last meet out of 27 roughly, the 9 year old girl had a good game on Godzilla and came 5th I think. Amazing!

I didn’t have the heart to tell them their results, shocking really. I have nothing but praise for them always.

So thoughts on this anyone.

I think tourney brackets for kids is a great idea, fairly sure I've seen awards for top U16 at some special when lit tourneys. Not sure we have enough youngsters in South Wales League to do it but maybe starting to would get more kids playing

We often do U16 at Pinball Office comps but often there's only 2 or 3, and most recently 0.

I do wonder with some of the older kids if they get fed up always getting a trophy when they're one of only a few U16s 😄

I think all tourneys should have women’s comp and kids comp. All you need is a min of 2 people to turn up.

I’ve been to a few of Clare’s tennis tourneys the last two years. Often you get just a few ladies entering a specific comp (they have age group comps) so it scatters the number of ladies across many comps. It still works

As a community we need to do as much as we can to get more folk into Pinball. Kids and Women are imho underrepresented, so we have to work on those sectors.

Under 16s do have their own IFPA standings for youth-specific tournaments. There's one at Pinfest and at the UK Open that's just young people entering, and often tournaments will do trophies for U16s. Pinball Office always has one, I believe Pinball Republic and SWL does too.

Given numbers, having a separate trophy rather than an entirely separate comp is the way I’ve seen this addressed at most comps.

The very largest comps where there are the numbers to support a proper tournament, i.e. Pinfest and UK Open at the present time, already do this with a separate machine bank (typically shared with the women’s tournament).

How you deal with breaking tough results will depend on the child I suppose - some might be motivated to improve but I understand that won’t be the case for all. They aren’t oblivious and will surely have a sense of roughly where they came, especially if it’s a matchplay comp.

@Jackpot may have a more learned opinion given his two boys compete often - and not always at the bottom of the pile!
