My old one has died. My set up probably deserves better but the amp isn't going to really unleash the best of the turntable so looking for a secondhand one for a Moving Magnet (MM) cartridge, for around ther £50 mark.

I know I can easily buy a Pro-ject Phono Box E or MM for the money, Amazon will sell me those to be up and running tomorrow.
I was asking if anyone had anything they want to sell on, because I don't need brand new and happy to try a recommendation. I may get lucky and find something missing in the music again.

If, like me, people have older amplifiers they have phono inputs and so the phono preamp is only required with amps that don't have a phono input. I suspect there won't be many people that have phono amps they aren't using but I could be wrong. What amp do you have?

David

I thought this was going to go the other way and have loads of very expensive recommendations.

For 20 years I have been using audio-visual amps, these have needed a pre-amp that supports Moving Magnet cartridges as the amps do not have a phono stage built into them. My current amp is an RX-V765, that is still working for the very little use we now have for movie nights.

This really was about tapping into the experience of Vinyl lovers who may have an old bit of kit they had upgraded from. If I there is nothing available, I will return to ebay or RicherSounds.

Nice! I nearly picked up another Yamaha last year, however went for the onkyo tx-nr6100 in the end. Figured it would be fairly future proof (managed to get a bargain on an open box one that had been out of the box for 15 minutes, only for the customer to find that it wouldnt fit in the hole it was destined for!). Craking bit of kit - way overkill for what i use it for, but keep me going for a few years. I figured even if i dont use the bells and whistles, it sounds the dogs danglies, and thats what matters :)

I am scared to look at new equipment incase I get sucked back in again. Those trips to the showroom with the testing room where they would set up your requests so you could hear it but the always upsold you in one area.

I need to renovate a sitting room and discreetly run wires under the floor so I can get 7.1 again.

There is a massive difference between Digital based surround sound systems and Analogue HiFi. I would have separate systems for Videos and Music.

David, I value your help and opinion but please appreciate I do know a bit on the topic. The amp does have analogue outputs specifically for this use, it is why I bought this amp based on reviews, and the bought it directly from Yamaha in one of their offices after a sound test.
What it lacks, as many amps do, is a phono stage There is a whole market for these pre-amps, of all levels, which indicate there is a lot of people using them.

We can’t keep pushing people for perfect when they are asking for good-enough which is all I need to be able to hear my vinyl again.

As no one has stepped forward, I will hunt on eBay.

I'm never going to get permission to stick speakers on the ceiling, and to be fair i probably wouldnt notice.
Whats nice is that i have something decent to listen to films through (it's only 3.1 - maybe could stretch to 5.1 in years to come), but i also managed to connect my turntable and Minidisc to it, so that adds massive value to me 👍

I would recommend separate analogue (not Class D) amp and speakers for the best HiFi but if you just want to listen then go the route you are happy with.

I did use to do 7.1 and it was epic. Two main front, centre, two monitors in the middle, two rear speakers and the sub. Then we moved and I got away with the cables for a while but what was worse (or awesome), is that the floor was is a suspended wooden floor and the subwoofer would use the entire space under the floor, the rumbling annoyed my wife. ;)
