I know this is a bit hit or miss but please could anyone give me some advice on why my Scared Stiff very occasionally just cuts out and then switches itself on again?
It happened this morning (whilst i was having a great game!!...typical) and then came back on with the back box on ..then the playfield a bit afterwards .
No errors come up when switching machine on.
This happened a few months ago so very hit and miss ..like my playing..

Any help would be great for a novice like me ..

Cheers ;)

there are many threads on here with this issue. Search "resets" on here and you'll have an abundance of threads to check offering you advice. Effectively reseat ribbon connectors and J10- something or other.

reset all the black/grey wires and see if that stops the reset issue

If not then reset the small ribbon cable (2-3 inch long) between the two boards

It's a pretty common issue

Thanks for the feedback on my scared stiff john and spandangler..will have a good look at it tomorrow...i see you have a TAF John...I am looking to get one but most of the ones ive seen are either really expensive by dealers £4k plus or on ebay for nearly as much ...do they come up for sale on here very often ?
cheers :)

Mixed news on TAFs. There are still loads of them about but it's the go to machine for so many non-pinheads that means you'll be facing a lot of competition :( Operators also like them as they are good earners.

They do get offered on this forum but you'll probably be looking at 3k +

Yeah TAFs a tough one. If you're gona pay £3k for a rough one you may as well pay £4K for Chris Bs. But then I feel aggrieved to pay that much for a game that was £1000 not so long since and is likely to be re-released eventually

I ended up buying a semi rough one to tart up and play to death. If I ever sell it I should get my money back no bother

Now I can actually see there being a market for a TAF with a different playfield and backglass to get around licencing issues.

Although this might seem strange to us, at £7k+ a throw this is probably not going to be sold to hardcore pinheads. If you haven't bought one in the last 20 years then you probably won't be wanting to buy a repro one anyway. MMr worked in the US as originals were going for stupid money.

Would ops care that the playfields had been changed? I doubt most casual punters would ever know.
Would rich 50 year olds trying to buy something they vaguely remember from 1991 worry that it had been changed? Probably not
We already accept that there are TAFs and TAF Golds so is there room for a more expensive, different looking machine?

If Stern bring out a vault edition of SM with comic artwork, isn't this the same thing? People in the US seem keen to buy a new version of SM. presumably at almost 3 times the price that 2nd hand ones go for.

Although it goes against the grain for us I can actually seen potentially more demand for a different looking machine than a straight copy. Perhaps stick an LCD in there as well to appeal to a different audience:eek:

Please could anyone help? On my scared stiff when the ball drains down the right hand lane (telepathetic power ) i now only get the spot skull feature everytime..(before there were various other options). This also happens when you stop the spider and land on the crystal balls on the back box.
The right hand side bumper also sometimes randomly fires ..or sometimes when right flipper is pressed .
Not sure if these are connected but they started around the same time ..
Cheers :):hmm:

Sounds like a diode fault on the switch matrix go in to tests / switch edges look for 2 triggers off 1 input tricky to explain without being at the machine check out the video for some help

update on the scared stiff...had a look in tests mode and there doesnt seem to be any switches stuck on /off .all the switches which should be open /closed are in correct columns and working etc...ive tried with coin door shut and open .
i am prob still missing something obvious ;)
