Sad looking pins in Herne Bay arcade

Was in Herne Bay (North Kent coast) today enjoying the sunshine and stuck my nose in one of the arcades. Place looks very sorry for itself, wasn't expecting to find any pinball, but at the back under a thick layer of dust are these sorry specimens... the flash on my camera phone makes it look brighter than the dingy corner it really is.

None of them are plugged in or switched on and they're pretty filthy, some broken plastics etc but at a quick glance seem complete and the playfields I think are not bad under the grime although it was difficult to tell as it was quite dark back there.

The guy in the change booth had no idea about them, so whether they could be picked up by someone waving pound notes in the direction of the owner I don't know, but they're just piled up in a corner at the moment so they might be glad to see them go.

So I'm just putting it out there in case someone fancies trying. I don't have the space or time for any projects at the moment, and I am in no way related to this arcade other than I spent a quid in their 2p pushers this afternoon. Don't take my word for the condition either if they're worse under the grime than I think :)

It's this place here, 55 Central Parade :

Good luck if you give it a try.

I'd happily re-home the Star Wars, and the Dr. Who if push came to shove. Fish Tales can FO though. Shame I live at the opposite end of the country.

We have a few connoisseurs of carpets on here too who'd probably be up for liberating that 1970's masterpiece as well.

If the seller was willing I imagine he wouldn't want cherry picking. Could be a good group buy for folks more local.

Go on then - someone give em a call :) Bagsy FT ;)

can you do a bagsy on someone else's purchase?
if so, then bagsy SW here just so i can flaunt it at Will

I rang them this morning, the chap who answers said they did not have any pinball machine and almost sounded alittle annoyed I had asked. If he reads this I hope he was not offended. I was about to make him aware of the forum but the conversation seemed like he wanted to end it there. Maybe someone els had more luck.

Why are Arcade operators always so grumpy??

maybe they have a lot of people trying to buy them and no doubt with very cheeky offers. local ops I deal with get this at lot - people calling from other side ot he country asking have you got any pinballs . Luckily my 20 year plus relationships and the willingness to take the chaff as well as the cream over the years (eg fruit machines lol) means any pinball that come up are offered to me first. admiitedly most pins they get come second hand sources ie they don't operate pins any more but get offered them occasionally. Only had one this route this year , the liveable Bride as seen at the UKPP that set me back the princely sum of £300

I had to revive this thread as I visited the said amusement place in Herne Bay yesterday.

I have to say it is one of the most depressing arcades I have visited in my life. Carpets all worn out, dingy atmosphere along with completely worn out penny pushers and the odd classic arcade games all in poor condition. There was a Wonderboy cab there for £1 a go and a really dodgy screen.

Needless to say the place was deserted, everyone was at the amusement place near the pier which was heaving and deserved to be as well. Up to date games very well priced.

Anyway back to the pinball side of this story. Fast forward a couple of years and that crappy amusement place is still housing a couple of giant paperweights doing nothing.

I am convinced the sole reason for the existence of this business is to launder money as there is no way it could possibly make money.
Maybe I have been watching too much Breaking Bad and Ozark which is all about money laundering

I'm from Herne Bay originally. Absolute S**t hole. That said I might be there in a couple of weeks. May pop in and see what the score is with them

Arcade is part of a large concern and a lot of folks have tried to buy these pins and others but no joy. They just aren't bothered

Same for one in Bexhill, had two pins holed up in the back that I managed to play before they switched off for good like 5 years ago (a ToM and T2). Tried to buy them "We don't sell anything here." Dunno if the games ever got sold or are still holed up behind like 10 other broken cabs.

Same row in the seafront has an entire unit filled with nothing but old dusty cr*ppy pub fruit machines. You peer in the window and there must be like 60 in there at least, doesn't look like anyone has been in years. One unit has some old arcade cabs that look semi interesting but same deal, dusty and doesn't look like it's been touched since like 1982.

Yep. Been in Bexhill trying to get those also. No go. I think everyone on the South coast has tried to pry them out of there at some point [emoji3]
