Roadshow - LED kit worth it?

I have a bunch of blown bulbs on the playfield to replace. Since I am going to be removing a lot of bits to get to the blown bulbs, I am thinking of splashing out on the LED kit from Pinball Heaven.

Is it worth the extra money?

If so, standard or super bright?

Not that I want to steer you away from Pinball Heaven but for LEDs I'd recommend http://www.pinball-led.co.uk/ and get their super-bright under playfield kit (this will not include GI, you will have to source that yourself, but they sell plenty of other LEDs you can make this up with). There is also a 10% off code for users of this forum, I forget what it is now but have a hunt using the search and you should come across a post from @alchy with it in.

If you really want to go mad go for Cointaker's kits, shipping will be expensive but well worth it.

I LED all my games and I'm never dissapointed with the outcome, always looks great. Only downside is you will lose the nice fading effects that come with lamps as LEDs are on or off only, no inbetween, but if it bothers you that much it can be remedied with an LED OCD board.

General Illumination. These are the bulbs that 'poke through' the playfield and light up stuff above so things like slingshots, bumpers, lights under plastics etc. LED kits (or at least the ones I have bought) generally only cover the lights that go under the playfield (so insert lighting). Some companies do sell kits that cover the entire machine though.

Just thinking if you want to do the backbox you will need LEDs for that as well. Again you might be able to get a kit but not sure where. I like the ability to pick and choose what colours I want and then order the individual LEDs appropriately. Kits are fine ,especially under playfield ones like I already mentioned, where inserts are already a particular colour (so you will get a yellow LED for a yellow insert, go figure) but the ability to choose your own lighting preferences is great for the GI and backbox.

Case in point I did my F-14 Tomcat a while back and bought an under playfield kit from pinball-led.co.uk but then bought frosted dome bulbs in red and blue to cover each side and a colour changer in the pop bumper. You can see the results of it here, in hindsight it is probably a bit much but I like how it turned out:

GI Is General Illumination.

Playfield lights are CPU/MPU controlled, and fit in the "inserts" of a playfield i.e. the different shaped things like circles and arrows etc

GI Are the Illumination you usually find around the edges, under the plastics etc

Dan loves leds and sets all his machines up with them,

i personaly like them on certain machines like the above f14 (nice 1 archy ) or T2 that kind of theme, but some people think it should be death by umbungo if you use the dark arts of led/s

Ta dude, I generally do most of my games. Regarding what you said I'd say anything system 11 and up goes, althought my friend has a very nice Future Spa that has LED lamps as close as can be to the old bulbs which looks good as well. I find it depends on the LED as well, the cheap & nasty ones that are super dim look pretty terrible but conversley sometimes the ultra bright ones are way too much and you want something in between. Very much depends on the game. I mean to me something like this is OTT and the translite just looks blown out, but could be the photo:

Also the pink legs and armor is ugly is f*ck ;)
