RGB led string issue?

I bought a set of these from ali express in the 3m 144 variant

So it works but the last few feet of led's don't light! I contacted the seller he told me it needs 10 amp psu so I tried it on my 20amp bench psu it was still the same even when I powered it from the other end, informed the seller and he sent me another set but it's exactly the same? surely not 2 faulty sets? Or I'm being stupid! Likely! I'm getting 12volts out the other end?

Thanks Ronne

WS2815 is a 12v version of the WS2812B (5v) - and, it also has a backup data line for added reliability. I guess you got 2 duff strings. I would cut and join. Usually the last led that is lighting is the problem (i.e. it is failing to pass on the signals to the next led in the line. (It could also be the first one that is not lighting that is at fault, but for the sake of 1 led, I always remove the last one lit as I've found that works most often).

Oh - and another thing - the controller - is it designed for so many leds? It could be limited to N number of leds. I have done a lot of work with these addressable leds, programming arduinos, and the first thing you have to determine is how many leds in the string you are going to use.

Thanks Alan, I would have thought the controller sold with it would be able to cope with the number of leds but who knows, I will need to compare both the strings and see if it stops on the same led, other than that I could try and remove the last lit and the first unlit led and see if that fixes it?

Thanks for your input Alan:thumbs:

So both strings stop on the exact same led 92cm of the string unlit, I tried to tap the controller on the dead end of the string (both male plugs) so a bit tricky but nothing lights on the string from that end?

1. you cant go from other end as the first led will have it's dataOUT pin exposed, not its dataIN pin
2. Given it's same led on both strings, I suspect maybe the controller? What number led is that?

Ah ok, that explains it lol, so it's the 300th led that's the last to light, they are soldered together in strips of 72.

Thanks Ronnie

Try this:
2048 pixel adjustment method:
  1. press and hold for 5 seconds to enter the setup menu and press MODE + and MODE – to adjust the number of LED pixel points.
  2. Only adjust 32 points each time.
  3. Press the B button to adjust the RGB sequence until the color sequence of the first three lights is red, green and blue.

(Tips: If you want to adjust the pixel points from 300 to 2048, you need to press ‘MODE+’ key 54 times.)

No, doesn‘t say what to press for 5 seconds…

And they seem to limit it to 300 for power concern issues, take care the controller doesn‘t get too hot or use a separate power supply

Ok this is now working! Nice one Florian thanks, It's running fine and cool with a 5 amp psu through the controller jack

Must read instructions in future!
