So I grabbed the RFM that was on eBay (did a deal with the seller in the end)
Picking it up tomorrow (hopefully a single trip, but it's not too far, so may end up doing two if I have too) and I was starting to hijack the eBay thread with my newbie questions.

I've got to take it up 2 fights of 8 steps, which are both 2 steps and then a 90 degree turn .
I think it will go - the doorway on to the stairs is 64cm and the machine is 61cm at its widest point from what I can tell
AndyN suggested taking the glass off and the playfield out which makes sense - and then the cabinet is just a wooden box which will weigh less
I was going to take the glass off before attempting the stairs at the very least - don't fancy breaking that.

Taking the playfield out doesn't actually look to bad, but I've never even taken the lockdown bar of a game before....
Does it need to be on it's legs for the playfield to come out? The animation on the Pin2K site seems to suggest it needs to be dropped forwards to be removed, and it looks like it might need some space to drop down.

Is it generally better to remove and reattach the head off with the legs on? I'm assuming so that way you don't have to hold the whole weight of the machine while trying to attach the back legs.

Taking the playfield out of RFM is really, really easy. It won't matter if the machine is on legs or not, just remove the lockdown bar, remove glass, lift playfield at front until it can be slid forward. Keep sliding it forward until you can get to the connector plugs at the rear of the playfield. Disconnect them and lift the playfield out of the way. All the plugs are different so no need to label them.

As above - RFM is VERY easy to pull apart.
Dont try carrying it up the stairs fully built! My first pin was an RFM and i took it up a set of stairs 1mtr wide. We had 4 of us lifting it, and it nearly killed us!

As well as removing the playfield, i would remove the head as well. Just 2 bolts either side and it will lift off. Just make sure you disconnect the cables to the computer inside.

Everything has different plugs so you cant go wrong when putting it all back together

As Stated above its one of the easiest playfields to remove, get some additional help with the monitor though it’s real heavy big and awkward. and look after that glass as its very expensive to replace

Ah miss my RFM……

Backbox / monitor on these is insanely heavy. I put one together myself and nearly puked with the effort of lifting the bbox into position[emoji27]! I also nearly lost it at the last moment which could have been nasty. Get someone to help [emoji3]

Cheers guys - that's really useful :)
Best to take the head off before the legs?
In my head although it's heavy I was thinking it would be easier to lift the head on/off the body while it has the legs on, rather than put it on and then lift the whole lot to put the legs on.

Take lots of photos is the best advice I can give.

I got my first Pin a few years back and was immediately faced with the prospect of stripping the head in order to get it through the door. It took me a good 30 minutes to figure out how the hell you get the backglass out and after that I took absolutely dozens of photos.

Then I bit the bullet and unplugged everything, removed the head and brought it into the house. Put it all back together and, hey presto, it worked.

Since then i've got steadily braver to the point that i've now done a full strip down of the full machine including the playfield, both top and bottom. No major drama so far but I guess the proof will be when I switch it back on after it's all back together. ;-)

Don't even think of trying to take the legs on or off while the backbox is attached...you will kill yourself. I cannot describe how much that lot weighs. Its ****ing heavy. Much heavier than any other pin.

Horrible feeling that this isn't going to fit where it needs to go - I'll give it one more try
But failing that anyone after an RFM for £1500?
Cabinet has a few bumps and scrapes, but other than that it's in good condition, was working great when I played it yesterday.
It's now in bits ready to move.
It's got a new PSU, but the rest is original as far as I know
This was at one point John Whitfield's machine and it's been with the guy who he sold it to ever since.

I might be interested if you decide to sell. My son is desperate for one after playing this weekend at tilt.
