Just back from mini summer holidays , day at flamingo land day at lightwater valley … my little boy - an i were abit disappointed with the “arcades ” what a load of rubbish , no arcade no pins just redemption and touch screens, do hard to want to spend money on pressing a big red button - that was literally the game :( did manage a nice game of air hockey. But sheesh sad days

Yeah all arcade games these days are big lcds + rgb led lights, nothing to really go wrong and kids seem to like them long as tickets come out so operators love them I guess.

miss the old days where arcade machines where all mechanical with bulbs and balls and seven seg leds n **** :(

ones that had strange and wonderful ways of interacting with coins where my fav :D

It’s sad kids these days don’t have the chance to play pinball (most of the ones I find are in bars) Stern should make a Super Mario table - believe there’s a new animated film in the offing by Illumination. Gottlieb were ahead of their time with the Mushroom Kingdom redemption mini machine- something like this with an LCD would go down well with kiddy winks

I popped down to Clacton on sea and Walton on naze recently. Clacton Pier has had a huge refurb, but other than curiosity and seeing what they'd done I had no desire to put any money in anything.

I spent so many weekends at both places when I was young and Walton pier is the home of my first pinball memory, the arcade is exactly the same just newer machines.

Everything looks like a big mobile phone game and just pumps out tickets. I suppose this is the future and things change. Most children probably wouldn't have a clue if they saw a pinball machine now.

Spanish City down the road from here used to be great. Now its the same, grab machines tickety machines and slot machines. :(

Hey the Spanish city isn’t to far from me :) when I was it kid it seemed so exotic !! Did a bus trip from school. Ha that was alongggggggg time ago

I remember getting the bus there to play the arcades. Keeping enough for the bus ride home. Until the loot was gone. OK, lets spend 10p for one more game and walk a couple stops.
Ended up walking all the way home :o

I’m in Cullercoats - my kids love those bloody amusements solely because they get a ‘free’ packet of sweets if I spend a tenner on them throwing balls at a row of plastic coconuts 😭

My first ever pin was from the Plaza just along the doors. A Williams Flash.
Ended up buying Centaur, Barracora and Mr & Mrs Pacman too :)

I posted this on UKVAC not long ago, but cheap redemption simple games make far more money than the big expensive arcade games, it's been that way since around 2010, to the point where arcade game makers barely make any new games for arcades now.
I was able to quickly adapt to when lightgun games became the norm, but not this rubbish...

At least pinball games are still coming out!

I wasn’t into pinball in the 90’s- other than playing T2 and TAF, I honestly didn’t think about it again until I started getting sick of modern consoles- no real challenge in new games. Wish I’d took an interest in buying pins earlier as I’m gonna end up paying over £2K again for something that would’ve been £1500 ish only 2 years ago. I’m heading to the Head of Steam on the Quayside at some point this week on a tip they have a WOF and CSI- haven’t played either before and want to rule them in / out before I decide to up my budget or not on my next pin.

We usually have a few folk a week walk in and walk straight out as there are no ticket machines. One family made a complaint that there was nothing for kids. I just reply were not that sort of arcade though we do have a grabber and the "notorious" sweet factory now!
