Has anyone used the precision flippers that are being sold in a Pinside store.

I am just about to pull the plug on a set for my JJP GnR and just wondered if anyone has them and what they think?

Any feedback would be appreciated before i place my order i am just waiting for the keyed shafts to become available in stock to complete the order.

Regards Paul

Yep, got a set of the original solids then moved on to the Halos, you'll not go back. Keyed shafts and clamps make things pretty simple to change over.

The reduction in the power setting on the coils is the only thing to consider, make sure you still have the scope to remove a significant amount from where you are now. Also worth just changing to the bearings John makes over the stock ones if you don't want the clatter from the aluminium bats.

Plenty of info on the modding thread regarding JJP.

I changed to the Halos as the profile has been altered from the original design to reduce the lip at the bottom. It was catching the ball ever so slightly at the tip so John reduced it so that only the rubber has contact if not using standard rings.

There are differences in the two versions as to how they play, but not enough to choose one over the other as a result.

This is a link to the thread that started it all as far as this product is concerned. Lists the development from concept to current production models and the trials along the way, loads of pics and ideas, well worth trying for the money when compared to some of the 3d printed tat that seems to command a premium :-

John is open to ideas and will always happily engage if you approach him with a question.

I feel my evening slipping away from reading the flipper thread on Pinside 🤦‍♂️

Carbon seems a nice idea but quite frankly i got enough in my life to worry about so for me they look great, there is enough evidence to show they work the same if not better than stock and yeah, they look great and perhaps i’ll beat my 6 loop continuous total with them 😁

I played with a set in the US and I felt they were overkill.

Neil.

They have to be better than the JJP stock so iam in when they have the keyed shafts and clamps back in stock :excited

Along with the awesome coil cooling fans from @Wayne J should be a big improvement.

I have those cooling fans , noticed they were still disconnected from the other week when i installed the side art. Been playing it a lot recently and hadn’t noticed any issues. Perhaps it is only an issue when the ambient temp is constantly above 20 degrees - like summer time ?

Im just waiting to hear back from John with my questions

Appreciate your input Neil. We are on a different skill level and I wouldn’t be able to comment

Not sure you really need the cooling fans once you have the full flipper kit installed, the reduction in the coil power makes for an added bonus of reduced fade. ( YMMV ).

Its worth at try I suppose but in my view I think thats not just the flippers but the interface between the button push and the flipper firing - what would worry me about putting them in a JJP is the likely damage to the game! Especially more recent JJP games like GNR and TS4 which are far less well built than say DI.

Might these be a mod too far ?

The games were designed and calibrated with plastic flippers in mind.

At least it is reversible and consistent with the first rule of pinball - do no harm.

You could put electric motors and a battery in a Lamborgini Miura - but it doesn't mean you should

Just to update the thread. Flippers been in for a couple weeks now and power turned down to 200 on each side. Had no issues and find accuracy improved ( from my experience )
Power on top flipper set at factory standard

I had everything on full before. Even with it set on factory i could feel the power was a bit too much. It felt like the ball was gonna eventually break the power line switches

Well I'm a skeptic and didn't feel like paying an arm and a leg for these. But I did while on vacation in the US. Saved me some money on shipping. So I can with an unbiased mind tell you they 100% make a difference.
Full kit on Iron Maiden pro, I can smash that center target now. Hit both side ramps a bit better but with much more power.
Just bushings on my Foo Fighter Prem. and also can hit the upper playfield ramp much more often. all other shots have more power as well.
Just bushings in my Whirl Wind. Well these I'm not as pleased with. Because the flipp batt shaft does not fit in the bushing. I was told by precision I need to sand my bat shafts because the bushings are made for their shaft. Well that could have been something to post on the website or tell the customer ahead of time. So now I'm sanding and hoping they are precise and smooth. Unfortunate and not really happy about that last part.
Over all for Sterns I'd say go ahead.

Yep, Had some pinfo’s round this weekend and 1 left and immediately bought some the next day. I have most makes here but find you only need the flipper full set on sterns.
Every other game , well i only have TNA spooky I have just installed the bushes. Full set on TNA was too aggressive

I can make left ramp on GTF with left flipper

Your just a tad unlucky with the tolerance there @gunner007 , Maybe a new set of plastic flippers would aid you easier ??

Can’t shout from the rooftops enough about the metal bushes
