Powder coating opinions

Hi guys just dropped off legs side rails and coins door etc from my Spider-Man for powder coating at a local guy. I’ve gone for candy blue which will have a speckled effect through it.

My question is though should I have got the fasteners done at the same time? I could have went for the same colour or I guess a red colour to match the red T moulding I have on the cabinet.

Or do you guys think it looks fine just in black? I guess I could spray paint them a glossy finish.

Thoughts/opinions much appreciated as it’s not to late to drop of the fasteners as he would get round to them til the end of next week.

Here’s a pic on the net of the fasteners in blue as well..

I would do the leg bolts too. If you do them in the same colour it probably won't be any more expensive.

Price really isn’t the issue (it’ll be a tenner extra I’d imagine) my only worry is it being to much blue.

I think red would contrast nicely.

I’m aware I’m going to be selling at some point in the next few months so just wondered what others tastes where etc...

So no pleasing everyone mind!! [emoji23]

I wouldn't get the leg bolts done, as I would be concerned about it chipping off when fastening the bolts up. Make sure you use a 6 sided socket, not a 12 sided

I’d paint them blue plus the leg bolts like others have suggested. I think red would be to contrasting and over the top, although red leg/cabinet protectors in i think would look good.

I got my Stranger Things done last summer and I got the leg bolts and the backbox screw heads done too. As long as you are careful, the leg bolt should be fine, mine are fine. I also got the fasteners done and they look good.

Personally, I would drop them round and see if they can do them too. The place I went to did say they were on the cusp of being too small.F24F679F-BE1F-4819-92FC-AF3A93091089.jpeg

Nice work that looks ace... Do you mean the screws for attaching the side rails were almost to small?

Yeah, the screws are not powdercoated and to be honest, you cannot even tell. The smallest they were comfortable with was the fasteners that bolt the side rails.

I wouldn’t bother with the door, shooter or bolts. Door looks great but much more work.
I gathered a complete set of legs, lockdown, hinges and lollipop rails (11 items) and got them done first, then swapped each item in situ - saved packing down and game being out of action. What was removed went towards the next game, and repeat…

Thanks for all your reply’s guys. Think I’m going to get the bolts and hinges fasteners done as well and just be as careful as possible putting it back together.

Thanks for all your thoughts [emoji1303]

I’ll list a pic when it’s done.

Cheers Alan

Yeah, I love seeing other people’s powdercoating!

It has to be one of the best value mods you can get. I was quoted £80 (that was before I sprung the coin door and shooter on the guy though mind you) [emoji23]

Yeah, I love a good bit of powder coating. It can look overdone sometimes.

Blue on spider man!?!?! - I did not think it would work but it does.

Can I ask how much you paid?

Also - on doors do they not 'crack' paint off around the hinges after a few months?

Yeah I know blue looks great doesn’t it? Who knew! I haven’t had it done yet mate it’s currently at the powder Coaters just now. I was quoted £80 but I’ve added a coin door and shooter so might be a bit more than that.

No idea about the hinges if anything I’d guess it might mark a little on the inside of the door but doubt you’d see it? [emoji2371]

Yeah, I agree, it can make the machines look so much nicer, although I have seen a few look hideous (personal opinion / eye of the beholder and all that).

I think I paid about £120 for Prismatic colours and lacquer, which is about right round here. Off to get the metal work on Big Buck Hunter done next week, I will post some pictures when done.

I also hate the finish on Stern Pro metal works.

Back from the powder Coaters and installed yesterday very happy with the result. Still toying with getting some spare leg bolts painted red and might get red leg protectors as well.

This is candy blue and it has a nice shiny finish to it. Thanks for all the advice originally guys [emoji1303]

Snap!

Minus the door, apron and shooter plate as I couldn’t be ****d, nor have any other of my games had that done.

Mine looks a slightly lighter blue, and it wasn’t anything particularly fancy in terms of colour name/type.

My guardians is also candy blue and looks a smidge lighter

Yeah agree yours looks a little lighter both look fantastic IMO. The coin door was a pain to put back together, so many little screws I had to take quite a few pictures but thankfully it went back together ok and I didn’t have any screws left over [emoji23]

Yeah, that's why i recommended against it!

I only get the parts done that i can take on and off easily without machine downtime, thus only 4x legs, 2x hinges, 2x rails and 1x lockdown bar.

Got an extra set of legs so i can do it in situ without packing it down too. Changing 1 leg at a time.

Oh I like the blue pop bumper skirts… need to speak to you about something to decorate the apron mate… [emoji16]

Once my HS2 finished and out the door I will be starting it and have doom cool ideas for the apron.

The blue pop bumpers were bought off @James Pinball Bazaar.

I am same, I looked at the coin door and thought, nope, you are not going!

I think the Blue coin door look good, but I have seen some that look hideous (beauty in the eye and all that of course!) once powdercoated.

Yes I agree I’m really happy with the door and shooter rod. I did swither about doing it as I agree they sometimes don’t look great (maybe a bit too much if it’s a bright colour) I think as this is a darker blue it matches really well [emoji1303] Worth all the screwing/unscrewing!
