Hi, I am a noobie to playfield cleaning.
I have recently purchased a Space Invaders with a dirty playfield. My first ever pin.

Conflicting info seems to be everywhere on what products to clean and wax. Please can someone help sort this out.

Cheers Mike

Space invaders is a non clearcoated playfield. Ie the artwork is painted into the wood and there is no protection. Do go easy - no abrasives otherwise you might take paint off, For older playfields there is a product called millwax (pinball heaven stock it) it cleans and waxes.

Your playfield may have pieces of mylar over it to protect it. That was often applied by operators to reduce playfield wear. Mylar is thin clear hard plastic sheets, glued to the playfield.

Hi, yes there are areas of both wood and Mylar. So will miwax clean both areas, or should I get separate cleaners for each area. Cheers Mike

Thankyou, for the info. Will purchase some millwax. Just one further piece of info, is millwax the best product for degreesing/ cleaning the Mylar ?
Maybe someone out there is restoreing or cleaning a pin in Cornwall. So I can look and learn..cheers.

Foam cleaner and Novus 2 and wax is what I would do. I would use a micro fibre cloth and do the Novus by hand and keep checking the cloth and playfield so you are not taking to much paint off also don’t rub to hard in one spot as this will take it to bare wood . Now as for the Maylar I would probably use a 2” buffing pad in my drill .

As for my space invaders it is always my intention to take it to pinball party /pinfest but always something gets in the way 🫣

O and I still have it ,it’s just under about 10” off stuff which is on top of it ☹️

That sounds like a plan. With regards to the Maylar are you saying just buff it with the pad or use wax/ cleaner on it. Not sure where I got this thought from but someone posted somewhere that they have used Meguiars Plast Rx to clean the Maylar. Any good or No ? Thankyou for your info it is greatly appreciated.

Novus 2 and don’t hold it on one spot as it will melt the Maylar
