Pins in Cornwall?

I'm going to be down in Cornwall in July and wondered if there's any decent pinball going in that neck of the woods.

Pinformer has the odd few scattered about but most seem to be in Newquay which is miles away from where I'm going to be (Porthlevin down the SW end). Nearest one seems to be a virtually unplayable TSPP in Penzance...

Anyone know of any unlisted venues in that neck of the woods or alternately any local pinheads who don't mind a Northern weirdo wandering in for a game or two?

Cheers,

Rog

You're not that far from St Ives - 30 mins according to Google.

St Ives has just one pinball: Star Trek Pro in Harbour Amusements right on the front, but at least they look after it, least it was good when I was there in April. 50p a go or £1 for 3.

Not much reward for 17 miles each-way driving perhaps, but that depends what else you want from a holiday. St Ives is packed with shops, mostly art galleries, and lots of cafes and restaurants. If that floats your boat it isn't a bad place to visit.

Parking is a nightmare though. Look out for signs to the park and ride from Lelant Saltings which really is good value. A nice slow and scenic train ride along the coast right into the middle of town.

And seagulls, watch out for the dive bombing, food stealing seagulls

Just back from a week in (mostly) sunny Cornwall, based around Newquay.

The 'X-men' in Newquay (Carousel amusement arcade on Fore street ) has taken a real turn for the worse (see photo below) with main Wolverine toy gone, ball locks not working and their only seems to be two balls in the machine for any multiball(!). Right Gand flipper also sticking up continually.

Did find a new Newquay location with a Tron on site in Belushis bar (fantastic view across they gay when playing I would imagine, but didn't have a chance to play as it was right next to a band playing to a large bunch of 'skater boys' down for Boardmasters).

Star Trek in St Ives still there and in excellent condition, well maintained & £2 for 5 credit.

So if your X-men Wolverine is broken and you don't want to spend any money on a proper replacement this is what you can do (complete with legs in the air to stop those pesky balls damaging it):

I tried while I was down there but pinformer won't let me update anything.

It always says the 4 character "prove your human" code is wrong whenever I try.

Ok I will contact Ben by email and let him know. Pinformer is such a valuable resource that we all need it

Stuck down in Cornwall at the moment and it's pretty much a pin free area around here. Will be heading over the border to Plymouth on most days so will peer into dodgy looking pubs to try and see if there is anything there.

If you end up in North devon john there is a acdc in ilfracombe, ment to be an xmen in woolacoombe and there's a TZ and not yet running firepower in Barnstaple

If your up on the North coast I found a Starship Troopers Pin in an out of the way pub in Porthcothan Bay:

Tredrea Inn
Porthcothan Bay
Padstow,
Cornwall PL28 8LN
‎01841 520450

They've a mini arcade in out the back and several old-school push-penny/ roulette/ Fruitmachine gamblers in the pub and an outbuilding. a lot are 2 - 10p a go and they've several change machines as well.

Ironically the Pin was the only thing not working the day I was there but they said the guy was coming to fix it when available. Met the op while I was there and he seemed a genuine bloke so hopefully up and running by now - Was a good laugh on the other stuff anyway :)

If you're in St Ives the Stern Star Trek is worth a play. Not the 5* Pinformer has it at the mo but still very playable.

Cheers Ian.

Think the Plymouth bit is now finished as my father in law is now thankfully back out of hospital :), so we're now in a 30 mins holding pattern around their house back in Cornwall for the next few days

Found a great arcade next to the cinema in Plymouth but no pins in there. Kids were getting really excited about a ski video game and a few others but we were swiftly escorted out by my wife:(:(

Off to a maze made of maize later. Other local attractions include a WW1 singing night in the local pub, a coffee shop that doesn't open 2 days of the week and the pungent smell of muck spreading on the local fields. Starting to feel that maybe the countryside isn't really for me. Twat of a son has also managed to lose his glasses in the sea, so he's walking around like Mr Magoo and moaning that he can't see anything on his phone or read a book.

Back from the Maze thing. Now I wasn't really sure what to expect but there were AA road signs for it (like they have for Thorpe Park etc), so I figured it must be something established. Err - it was a maze made of Maize (no surprise there), a game of Jenga, 3 goats, a lama and 2 turkeys and 15 or so hay bails that kids could climb up. ****ing hell, the long winter nights must just fly by ;) Even the bloody lama there looked inbred and had teeth like Ken Dodd.

Off to Fowye tomorrow so posh people and no pins :( Although last time I was there they had an aquarium with about 6 lobsters in it.

I still like the idea of the countryside but the reality always comes as a bit of a shock. Mains gas is a good thing. Septic tanks are by definition bad. Internet Speed should never be viewed as fast if it is below 10 Meg

Gave a bit of thought last month to having a lifestyle change and toyed with running this holiday complex recently but not really sure that marketing holiday cottages with weirdo owner and pin collection was really a strong enough USP (+ I appear to be missing a million or so)

Rudi you might be right but it's where my wife grew up before she had to leave as she only had 8 fingers and two thumbs ;)
Mind you I'm a man who doesn't fancy the idea of living in an area with a 0208 phone number -- bloody outer London bumpkins.

0208 never even heard of that code lol. Down my way you get lovely scenery, loads of tourist days out and things for kids, beaches and actual shops

At least you have be able to play on holiday, I haven't seen a single one on my holiday.

Still no pins today but Rebecca managed to step on a Weaver Fish (no never heard of one either but lots of pain and poison injected) and an encounter with an 18" diameter bright blue jellyfish. **** me this countryside stuff is dangerous

To be fair weaver fish are horrible bastards, their only job seems to be to sit hidden in the sand with their spines up waiting for someone to stand on them :( I know they're painful, I've been lucky

I'd never even heard of them. I just assumed Becca was hamming it up in the way that only 8 year old girls can and had just caught her foot on a sharp rock edge. Oops, felt really bad for telling her to stop making such a fuss:oops: Been reading up about it since and it does sound like a really nasty thing to happen.

Venturing further inland tomorrow in predicted extremely heavy rain. Maybe I'll stumble across a hidden horde of pins in a pub at lunch time.
