Hello all,
Many of us have built mancaves / glorified sheds / outbuildings in the past and have decided after much research to use specific materials and suppliers during the build.
The idea of this thread is to capture what materials and suppliers have been used (and possibly prices) in order to inform others who might consider embarking onto a similar project but just don't know where to start.
In order to make the thread easier to read, it might be a good idea to give a title to your post as shown below.
Any suggestion is obviously taken at your own risk. Particularly when it comes to prices, things do move on quite quickly and what was a bargain one day might not be it the next.
So my penny worth to start with.
Roof covering
When building my glorified shed, i was looking for cheap but robust roofing materials. Felt is probably the cheapest form of roof covering i could think of but the durability of it was a real concern. I ended up using roof felt tiles which i got from ebay and 4 years on, they still look exactly the same as they were the day i installed them. I got them from a guy called FELT-TILES UK on ebay. It did help that this guy is Derby based and hence local to me but i note that he offers free deliveries. I dealt with him outside of ebay and got what i felt (no puns intended) a good price of 10 packs of 3m2 each for £225, delivered. I note that his prices have gone up as it looks closer to £35/packet now. But that might be the going rate for this now. I just don't know.
Insulation
Next, insulation. For my shed, i was looking for 50mm Celotex insulation boards. They come typically in 2.4mx1.2m size. After searching the internet, i bought it from INSULATION4LESS.co.uk. Their current price for one board is £21.77 (inc. VAT). I paid more than that a couple of years back.
Dehumidifier
Having plastered the inside of my shed i was looking for a reasonable dehumidifier. I settled for this one: EletriQ 12 litres low energy premium dehumidifier for up to 3 bed house. I bought from Appliances Direct for £152.89 delivered. Still a good price i believe and a brilliant piece of kit.
And that's probably me done at this stage as the rest of the materials I used were all recycled.
