Hi
Bit of a noob question, how do you guys determine what a pin is worth? Is there a guide out there or is it a case of just seeing what things sell for on here / eBay etc. I have a very good condition High Roller Casino but have no idea what it is worth today.

Always a bit harder with the older games that don't come up much, but doing a search on previous sales is always a good indicator too.

Depends on the pin, whether it's a desired title, condition etc. Sadly for you HRC is not considered that desirable! Put some pics up in the what's it worth thread, as ever it's only worth what someone is willing to pay and with a title like that, eBay may be the best option for you

How do you determine what pins are desirable? Is there a site out there that rates them? I believe there were only 1200 HRC made and only know of a couple in the UK. Guess this must help a bit?

Not perfect but lots of reviews on each game....

Desirability is linked to playability and artwork, something HRC fails on both counts sadly. I’ve owned at least 3, i think a full container came to the UK but likely a lot were scrapped, rarity does not equal value but luckily the board set is worth a few quid so it should be £1k minimum. It’s likely you will get up to £1500 subject to condition Any more than that then I would suggest you’re doing well

Pins can also be rare due to the fact its not a desirable pin or a good player.

Two things drive value ....

  1. The title of the machine
  2. Condition
Also, if you know the seller you might pay a bit more. Many nerds on here are ocd/ fastidious types. These are the best folk to buy from and you can sink a lot of (largely irrevoverable) time and money into a badly maintained game.

Pinball value is all about how much people like playing the machine. Perhaps surprisingly, rarity and age are not that important. The highest production game, The Addams Family, is a £5k machine and is now nearly 30 years old. Fish Tales came out at the same time and is worth less than half that.

Data points ....
  • Look on ebay at completed auction prices
  • Pinpedia has global auction prices but data is three years old
  • Search for past sales on here
  • Put up pics and ask folk on here

Not looking to diss your game, but it is not sought after and will be relatively low value I am afraid. @mufcmufc knows his stuff and is spot on with his valuation and methodology above.

Cheers @mufcmufc, thanks for your help.

HRC will need eBay. Along with striker extreme its seen as the worst Stern and in the past board fodder. However with prices strong on eBay due to lockdown demand it could do ok.

to anyone in pinball its a £1000 game. You might get a sucker on eBay that gives you more for it.

I have a related question.

My ideal first pin is RS, I have the money for at least two mid range Bally Williams but haven't got the room until I move in a few weeks so I've been doing a little research.

I see loads of good pins on ebay but often they appear at least 1k more than they sell for on here.
For example theres a demolition man on the bay for over 3k but the one on here has had its priced dropped a couple times and now 1.8k, there doesn't seem to be much difference in the condition.

I've never played DM so I don't know the game.
Are most on ebay overpriced? It's so difficult for a newbie like me to know.

Yes almost all are overpriced on ebay. I think it started years ago when people put an extra £300 or so on to the price to cover ebay fees and then it just became a trend to put up for a high price to encorage an offer and then deal outside ebay to avoid fees.

Now others see these ebay prices and think is the norm so list theirs at same rate. Best guide is to look at sold items from auctions not buy it nows but even then they can be a bit more than normal going rate.

Not just ebay. Facebook is also the place for high priced pins.
Just be careful as most you see say refurbished but are usually on their last legs but someone stuck a few led bulbs in it. So practically brand new.

You might be surprised with High roller. With Csi and 24 still getting over 2k now and again, High roller and Roller coaster will probably sit around the £1500 on ebay

I think on here hrc is probably £1200 - £1500 depends on condition and if you can find the right buyer if it’s rough I think 1k is achievable

Not disputing any of the comments here - I'm sure they're all correct - but personally I have never understood HRC's poor ratings. It's got plenty going on: Backbox animation, Roulette wheel toy, Drop targets, Spinner, Slot machine toy, Physical ball lock, Liftng ramp, Ramp diverter. I've only had the chance to play it on Pinball Arcade but I think it's a fun, colourful game. Wish I lived closer to you I'd love to see the real pin. Please put some photos up and GLWS.

its not a dreadful game and you can set it up to be pretty challenging. But with so much choice it doesn't rise to the top.

that must be Mr P's classic arcade in Bognor Regis! must pay a visit down there post lockdown, Iv been to his maidstone arcade no pins there but a fantastic selection of 90s fruits

Yeah I've been there. Wasn't aware it was there so was a very pleasant surprise. Could have spent a lot longer there...

When evethting is back to normal give me a shout if you plan to go, Andy and I might well try and meet you there.

@Markjduk I hope this doesn't come across as a cheeky comment mate as it isn't intended to be. But how much did you think it would be worth? Have you had it a while and paid quite a bit for it bitd?
No need to be shy with what you thought. If it is your only pin then at least you have done the sensible thing and asked a few questions. Most people just see them online for £6k and think that's close enough 😂

Oh what a coincidence! I think i googled that place yesterday after its name was mentioned when I was looking for videos of the old horse racing 2p betting machines in the arcades.

the carpet is awesome. I have a soft spot for gameshow. its like rollergames - brilliantly naff

I would say now is a good time to sell. £1500 on eBay /gumtree . wont find much love on here

Yeah, definitely prefer playing gameshow to HRC :-) if anyone is thinking of a visit when its open again give me a shout, I'm 10 minutes down the road 👍

I didn't pay anything for it. I brought a Gorgar as a project pin when lockdown started as I had some free time for the fist time in 20 years to do something other than work! A friend of my Dads heard I was doing the Gorgar and he literally turned up at my workshop with it in the back of his van and said "I hear you like tinkering with pinball machines, I have had this one in the garage forever was going to throw it out, its yours if you want it". The reason i was trying to get a value on it was I wanted to buy him a good bottle of whiskey to say thank you but wasn't sure how good a bottle I needed to buy!
