If you have an electro-mechanical pinball or other electro-mechanical game from the 1950s to the late 1970s, you quickly learn that it frequently needs some minor adjustment to keepeverything operating properly.
While most people are more than willing to try to fix a mechanical game, thery are unwilling totinker with an electrical devise without some guidance from a good reference. The book Pinball Machine Maintenance by Henk De Jager provides the kind of informationmany collectors want.
This 195 page spiral bound paperback focuses on pinball machines that were manufactured byGottlieb, Williams and Bally from 1960 to 1977. It is written for the lay person (little knowledgeof electronics is required). It provides many tips and hints and provides step-by-step repair andreplacement of components.
It contains clear explanations with many schedules and illustrations. There are sections oncounters, switching units, relay circuits, and lighting circuits, as well as playfield maintenanceand coin mechanisms. Each of these sections are individually discussed for the different kinds ofpinballs made by Bally, Gottlieb and Williams. It is, therefore, tailored to provide you information for the specific model of pinball that you own.
For years pinball collectors would call and ask where they could get a repair guide similar to theones that were available for slot machines and jukeboxes. Jukebox collectors were especiallyfortunate because they had a specific manual for each model of jukebox made. While pinballcollectors don't have the convenience that jukebox collectors have, this new book should providemost of the information needed to troubleshoot your machine.
