So my wife an I spent a couple of weeks in Canada for our 1st wedding annerversiary (got back Saturday morning and have felt like crap all week....:-()
Spent a week in Toronto and a few days in Montreal before heading back to Toronto to fly home.
As always, the Pinball Map was really handy (whenever I go abroad I find it's usually a great way to find cool bars and such)
Toronto:
First stop was Dukes refresher and bar - pretty cool looking bar with some arcades and a lineup of about 7 pins. Nothing special, and some games were down, but did enjoy playing Stern KISS (can't stand the band, but really enjoy the pin...)
Tried the locally brewed beer called Amsterdam lager or something like that - one of the worst beers I've ever had:-(
Next noteworthy place was a bar called The Pint. Nice lineup of 90s pins mixed with some older stuff - enjoyed playing some Rollergames.
Another day we took a long walk to a place called ZED-80. Was like $5 or $10 entry for the whole day, with everything on free play. Nice line up of pins, some arcades and consoles set up. Only annoying thing was kinds constantly starting 4 player games on pins, playing a couple of balls, then walking off....
They had a nice Transformers; deception edition there which I really enjoyed playing (been a while since they had a TF at PB republic) and good to play some games I'd never played before like Data East Turtles (meh..) and Baywatch (enjoyed it, but flippers were too weak to hit some shots)
One night we decided to go and check out some bands at a venue called The Bovine Sex Club - pretty freaky place. Creepy dolls and stuff hanging from the walls and horror films playing on tvs while bands played (had a FT13th fulm on and later Texas chainsaw remake on - would love to play that venue myself). They had an AC DC pro in the back bar, so had a few games of that.
On to Montreal and there was only really one major place to play pins; Nothstar.
Was a bit of a mission to get there on a hot day, but a cool place.
Pins of note were Godfather (LE?), Foo fighters (Premium or LE I think - didn't get to play it, as was busy and was possibly a league night or something going on) and JJP Guns'n'roses standard etc.
Hadn't play a G'n'R standard ver. before and really enjoyed it (although did feel a bit basic) - would like a G'n'R at home some day; possibly on a temp loan.
Godfather was fun; looks nicely made (not a fan of the Rgb Light strips either side of the PF though) - felt a bit like a Bally/W game with some modern touches. Didn't seem to make great use of movie clips/movie references- maybe should've just made it a gangster game without the licence?
