Just booked the family holiday for the summer  - significant as this will be the first family holiday whilst having the responsibility of owning a pinball machine. A couple of 'protocol' questions:

What arrangements do I need to make for care of the machine whilst away - should I arrange for someone to come in daily, weekly or not at all to give it a polish and a quick play? Any other care tips?

Whilst away what is a reasonable maximum time I should tell the family that I should be without access to a pinball machine? How long is typical before going 'cold turkey' ? How many hours per day should be devoted to seeking out the nearest playable machine(*)?

(*) we're off to sunny Spain - within an hour or so of Barcelona - any recommendations of where to go or where to research? ( I had a look at a Spanish forum which seemed very active, but not surprisingly all in Spanish, which may stretch my daughters GCSE Spanish, especially as she seemed to have 'motivational' issues when being asked to translate it..)

Google Translate is your friend for foreign language forums (use the Google Chrome browser and it'll do the translations on-the-fly).

Also, make sure you go in a vehicle large enough to bring back a bargain Zaccaria pinball machine as you don't really want to have to leave your wife and/or children behind so it fits in.

Thanks @Nedreud for the tip re: Google Chrome - I'll have a look at

That will be an interesting conversation (and foreign exchange transaction:() at the Ryannair check-in desk on the way back!:D:D

They should be fine, just don't leave them too long or they **** on their own boards.

Aren't there any friends or family nearby why could take him in? It's pretty cruel to leave it locked up that long.

You're going to need to use a bottle of Millwax instead of sun lotion, a squirt of Novus 1 in every drink and you should make it back fine.

Managed to sort out the 'pinball care' issues whilst we're away on holiday with a couple of house guests who will be using our place as a base for their own holiday (benefits if living in sunny Devon) on the the basis that they turn the pinball on at least once a day and have a couple of games:thumbs:

On the pinball on holiday front, purely by chance , we seem to have landed on our feet (I say 'our' as kids & wife are slightly less convinced its a good thing) with an apartment 50m from the beach , 25m to the nearest bar and 100m back from the apartment a row of bars with a fairly smart looking arcade which has a back wall of 6 pinball machines including a Ripleys, fishtales , Indiana jones, roadshow, Grand Prix & pirates of the Caribbean - all bar 1 appearing to be in good working order.

A short walk further on this morning to collect rolls etc for breakfast revealed a further arcade with 3 more machines ( honest I hadn't gone looking of either)

So with a total of 9 machines within 200m or so (possibly ,more than are sited for public access in the whole if Devon, Cornwall & Somerset out together) is this Pinball Paradise (apologies for swearing at those who that term might be sending shivers down their spine!)?:

Magaluf.............;)

Or more seriously, Salou, which is about 45 mins South West of Barcelona (& the Nou Camp:cool:). Most famous for being very near Portaventura (theme park aka EuroDisney), but originally built by Warner Brothers), with plenty of beaches and family oriented enough ( so far!) for two mid-teen girls (who are definitely not old enough for Magaluf!) to go out and about in town unescorted.

Now quite concerned about eldest daughter's forthcoming GCSE results, having left her alone at home during 'study leave' with the invitation to have a few games of pinball on the I500 between revision sessions to break things up.

Stopped in at the nearest arcade on the way home last night and she wanted just one game on Pirates of the Caribbean (having never seen or played it before) - promptly scored 65 million, replay & extra ball awarded on her very first ball ( went downhill after that and finished spin a paltry 85 million)

Good to know there are still some youngsters out there lured by the silver ball.
Sounds like she could have the makings of a good player.

Pam in her day was a sight indeed. (Never played the pin though. Its now on my 'list'. Lol)

It's a pin I never got to play.
Will do one day.
It's suppose to be a dog, a bit like whammy Pammy.

Aww come now. Big hurt is outstanding......Well, the glove shot is at least.
I just can't see the love for Big Hurt.
Played it a few times at one of the early shows and just walked away thinking what a pile off poo.
Went back to give it another chance and nearly fell asleep while playing.
Sorry to the fans of Big Hurt, but it's not for me.

Agreed.

I just dont like the 'feel' of them. And the music always seem to just chug along regardless of what is happening in game.

I much prefer the Gottlieb alphanumeric games. Surf N Safari, Operation Thunder, Class Of 1812 etc

Come now. No love for Stargate then either? Everybody loves a moving spaceship? No?.....

Every Stargate I have ever played had week flippers making it impossible to make some of the shots making the game unplayable.
Stargate was a mega title and would have been a mega game if Bally/Williams had made it.
Shame, one machine that could have been so good, well at least it wouldn't have had week flippers if WMS had made it.
