PH warranty change

I thought I'd start the thread before someone starts one. after spotting my warranty change!

The way manufacturers dont do anything about these playfield issues has forced me to change the PH warranty as below.... it really means you should vote with your feet and force manufacturers to do something about this by not ordering their latest game when they haven't really done anything about their previous game. I did consider for a long time resigning as distributor for those who dont deal with issues effectively but I would just lose out to HLD or LG who would simply replace me and still not be able to do anything about it.

Warranty now has the following limitation.

  • Playfield defects – Playfields issues will be subject to manufacturer warranty and our warranty is no greater than what the manufacturer intends to do to rectify playfield problems, which is basically nothing.

Is this basically an ongoing JJP issue? Thought Stern had more or less sorted their QC issues with clear coating from BKSOR onwards?

HLD replace PH? ..... did I read that right?

I noticed this in recent Stern manuals:

"Each pinball machine has unique characteristics that make it a one-of-a-kind American made product. Each will have variations in appearance resulting from differences in the machine’s particular wood parts, individual printed art and mechanical assemblies. No playfield is perfectly flat and varies depending on the season. Game play will result in playfield dimpling as the harder steel ball contacts the wood and coating; over time multiple dimples will blend to make them less noticeable. Normal plastic insert crazing (tiny stress cracks) and ghosting (small cloudy areas around insert edges) are often seen in pinball machines, due to a combination of plastic mold stress, pushing of inserts into purposely undersized holes, and heating and breaking of inserts’ plastic “skin” when the playfield is sanded."

Hi Phil,

Is this a blanket statement on all pinball manufacturers or any in particular?

I only ask as i need to understand which manufacture(s) to send the message.

Pretty much blanket. But stern seem to be ok now

That damage to Rush is pretty shocking considering how new it is.

I know it’s a prototype but it does Stern zero favours allowing people to see how quickly this playfield gets damaged.

10k and there’s a potential this can happen within months 😱

This is the point, if they ship a cliffy out and say "suck it up" then I am limited by that...

So people who have ordered and put a deposit down before the change in your warranty, are they still covered or not?

Yes but we dont replace playfields anyway, it just made it clearer for people...

The only manufacturer that hasn't had a playfield issue is CGC.

CGC - no issues.
Spooky, TNA -> Now Fixed
Stern -> Several -> Now Fixed
AP -> Mirco -> Uncertain if fixed.
JJP -> Mirco -> Uncertain if fixed.
HW/PB -> mirco -> Uncertain if fixed.

Neil.

Oh no, not the old prototype gig.
They deliberately build proto flaking play fields? Same line JJP used, alas..... it was contagious.

People are also very forgiving about the issues the U.K. playfields had for MMR and their total denial about the insert printing and their milk carton work around so you could read them. I know it was a while ago but there was a lot of stonewalling and denial. All manufacturers have their issues

It also didn’t stop me from picking up a AFMr when one came up.

according to PPS it is on the list but have you played it? Its fun but not worth anywhere near it goes for.
No not played it yet but soon hopefully, looks very fun.
What pin is worth what it goes for these days, even some newish le/ce are going for silly money.

I would rather have one over the Western themed pin, moan baby moan😂
