My partners son is going to repaint the faded red on the cabinet of my BSD with an airbrush. What type of paint is best to use? He is quite the artist and does lots of airbrushing but he is only 15 and therefore inexperienced, has never painted a pinball machine before. The site he uses for all his painting supplies has many types of paint, which type should he use?

Thanks Rudi, Is that a type or a manufacturer?

Edit....looked it up, createx is a manufacturer so there's many types of createx. Which type?

It's the same stuff vids on pinside uses and he does it as a job. They use very good pigments so they don't fade etc unless it says otherwise they normally dry matt to satin finish but you will want to clear any touch ups. That's what he uses on pfs don't see why you can't use it for the cab

I used (Humbrol) enamel paints when I've done this on a BSD. Had to thin them down with roughly 50% thinner liquid

Just my opinion, but enamel gives a harder wearing finish than acrylic. The gloss finish is a really good match for the finish on the cabinet too

Acrylic would be a better choice if you're clear coating over it though. I use acrylic for playfield work, enamels for cab work.

Yeah I'd go with what wiz said enamel for non clear coating. You can use white spirits instead of the expensive humbrol thinners a lil tip for Ya.

Cab is all dinged up.. but this gives an idea of how the finish with gloss enamels is a good match for the cabinet sheen.

I think at the time I was under the impression BSD decals were not available.. Though there may be a grey market version out there now?

Paint is Humbrol #19. Gloss red.

Really? I thought they were readily available now. Go the enamel route then kev wizcat has already done the colour match work. The jap knock off brushes seem to work ok for enamels for general work, just crap with acrylics and fine detail work

I will have a knock off one for sale in a few days once my new fancy one arrives. Possibly a compressor to if I win the one I'm watching
