I know this has been discussed on the forum but dammed if I can find it.
Having removed the cab decals what grit disc should I use to start and finish with prior to redecalling. Thanks Ken

Kind depends how flat it is, but 180 roughly, 320 if it's already quite good. If you can upload a picture even better. 320 is as fine as I go before primer, no point going much finer 400 at finest. If you've got chunks missing and need filling then I use 80 briefly.

Aluminium Oxide is the better paper, stays sharper longer than just sandpaper.

The lower end of that range I'd guess, with lower grit levels before that as needed - e.g. if filler is being removed.

I don't even go to 400 grit on woodwork projects where the wood is exposed. 400 is into the realm of blade (chisels mainly) sharpening for me :-)

Buy a range and experiment. The pressure you apply and the vibration amplitude of your sander are big factors

I start with something like a 60 grit then progress to 400 for finishing off

I use the orbital to 240 grit then the rest by hand 400 , 600 , 800 then finished off with 1200 grit , it’s a little bit OTT but you do get a nice smooth surface . It becomes so flat you can actually get a reflection off it , so I know the decal will stick down properly , but that’s just me !!
