It's impossible to "review" it as it stands but I had 10-15 games on it so here are
my impressions:
Code is utter ****e BUT it was 1.05 and was mentioned that Stern had said it was prototype code
I don't really like the layout the skill shot area takes up too much space and is only used when the ball is plunged
Shots are tight but all makeable however the left orbit shot ALWAYS ends up in the pops as does the inner loop shot, not once did I see either make it through unscathed. The exit from the pops is a cluster**** of messiness. It may be that the machine wasn't level, but Evert Brochez had set it up and he's pretty particular about stuff and it seemed level. Some exits went to the left flipper, some to the right and some down the middle, it was pretty difficult to anticipate.
The ramps are STEEP, any missed ramp shots are potential centre drain fodder
The prison thing had lots of magnet throw around, when the doors open to reveal the head, they cover the optos and we THINK you had to bash the head to get prison multiball. Myself, Franck Bona, Craig and a few others didn't manage this once. Ad Jonker said he did it on the Saturday but you had to hit the head "really hard, as if it was a guy you really didn't like and only with the left flipper". I guess the switch was misadjusted on the head??
Flow from right ramp, through the pops and back up the ramp was nice, as was left ramp to left orbit (then a wait for it to come through the pops, plus a bounce pass as long as it didn't drain) back to left ramp.
Well walker hitting was a bit tedious. The guy from
BBH seemed to be shouting a lot of stuff at us, but I didn't hear him tell us to kill any elks or doves.
Drop targets started modes but I didn't really go for them that much as I forgot they were there.
Lighting is VERY bright and looks nice, the well walker insert is immensely ugly when lit.
Cabinet art was nice, backglass ok and speaker panel graphic looked very nice.
Dots that are in there are really well done, music seemed ok but couldn't hear it clearly for most of the time playing.
As it stands it's a miss for me but I hated Iron Man when it came out and there's little chance of me not having one in my collection these days so anyone considering this a "review" should take my opinions with a pinch of salt. The great games are generally an OK (or better) layout with great software, sounds and music. There's a lot of room for improvement on TWD, I think in a year once the software is there it will be a decent enough game.
