My avatar pic is once again out of date and needs changing. WCS is no more, it's been judged

JD arrived in my kitchen today following a trade for WCS. Big thanks to Steve for making the journey up to Notts and helping shift everything around. Really happy with the trade, what a great pin. I'll take some pics later this evening a put them up.

your crane arm is to low, take the plastic off and see how the bracket sits in relation to the rod, they should be flush,if the rod is sticking through the bracket, adjust it, the crane arm needs to be has high as possible.

Nice trade! What made you plump for a JD?

I'd played it at Ross's league meet earlier in the year and really liked it. Steve was looking or a change as well so seemed a good deal for both of us. I'm made up as I'm loving JD

I've been playing with this for a while this afternoon and just don't seem to be able to get it right. The back one of the 2 rods is flush with the bracket. I can get the crane to adjust up and down with the front rod by adjusting the screw under the pf. However, I've been adjusting it back and forth and running the 2 tests (adjust arm and unload planet) and in test mode I can't seem to be able to get it picking the ball up as it was too high and not centered. I dropped it back down and bit and still in test mode it wasn't 100% but then I played a game and it was ok.....very frustrating! Is there some knack to getting this setup correctly or am I just doing it wrong?

Also Stan, as modfather, I'd be interested to know what cool mods you think are worth doing? I'm just finishing getting my powered sub connected to it, same as I did for WW and I'm thinking about ordering the deadworld mod from Pinbits. Is that as simple as replacing the plastic ring and swapping a chip out?

Ok after a bit more playing with the crane arm it seems that the test is not a reliable way of telling whether it will work ok in game. I've raised the arm up as suggested and in the test it wasn't picking the ball up but when playing in game it's works fine

Stan - I'l take another pic of the arm position later so you can let me know if it looks right.

when you test the arm, make sure the coin door is closed. otherwise the coil will not get power.

to centre it , you have to move the ring, there is a slight adjustment in the 'slots' on the ring.

as for the Deadworld mod, I don't run with it. to me it spoils the flow. (which is what Dredd is all about) I do use the ring though cos it looks good. there is a pinbits kit on Ebay at the moment.it is just a ring and a chip, but the revision of the ROM is L1AT, so its an earlier version over L-7. which makes the game 'twitchy '. also if you knock one of the locked balls out of the ring, there is no compensation, its rare but it does happen. you have to turn the game off and re-start it. as for mods. look on my flickr page for a few idea's.

Cheers Stan, where did you get the green planet plastic from. That thing looks awesome with the green ring

Thanks for sharing the pics, your JD looks quality. I'd love an eagle topper but don't think I can justify the cost at the moment. How did you make the drop target decals? I've seen some on Pinball Decals site in the US, never thought about making my own...is it easy?

I've got the crane adjusted ok now, keeps the arm off the ring and picks up the ball 100% of the games played so far. When you say the L1AT rom makes the game twitchy, what do you mean?

So happy with this trade, JD is an awesome pin

if you look at the ROM revision history , it explains it.

for the decals I just lifted the logo off of the web, I had to make the 'u' in photoshop. just resize to fit, stuck them on the droptargets with mylar over the top. ( allow for the playfield too) as for the green planet, that is just green lamps instead of the red one's. put a green 906 in there as well . red and blue 906's look better in the pursuits rather than the white. PM me your address and I'll send some up to you.

super game is a great way to practise multiball action.

JD is my favourite table, so no expense is spared, as I am never going to sell it.it has all the GLM boards that are available, http://www.greatlakesmodular.com/

a word of warning, when lifting the playfield to the fully upright position, take off the shooter lane plastic, as it rests on the backbox and it will break at some point.

Thanks for all the info Stan and the kind offer re: the lamps. PM sent.

I think I'll get on the PC upstairs tomorrow and try and knock up some judge decals

JD is a game you need to know or you'll score nothing. The loop-drain takes a few balls before you know whats happening!! Now i really miss mine!!

Nice set of pictures Stan, I'm sure I won't be the only one 'Borrowing ' a few of the simpler ideas.

Sadly its too late for the shooter lane plastic
