Didnt want to derail Neil’s thread but I’ve got a quick question about MB. Does anyone know why the scoop in the mosh pit is so badly designed? I can’t think of any other game where there is such a big gap between the playfield and the metal. Is it because of the Drac tractor or was there meant to be a plastic that later was removed?

Every time I look at it it seems to be a half ****d bodge job. I can’t think of any other games that have an arrangement like this so it must have been fine for a reason

Not sure I understand - haven’t looked closely but it looks identical to AFM to me? but the Drac mech underneath does go very close to it.

I probably didn’t explain it well but on all the ones I’ve seen there is a big Gap between the metal in the scoop and the cutaway hole in the playfield. Basically a good 5mmplus gap around the metal so you can see through the playfield into the cab itself. Stray light streams through and It’s far more noticeable than on any other scoop I can think of. Just wondering if there is a reason this wasn’t flush to the wood like in all the other games? Possibly there was originally meant to be a plastic here to cover the gap but it was removed before production for some reason.

I’ll take a photo later to show what I’m rambling on about

Hopefully it will be one of your 'better' photos John as they are usually a bit blurred/out of focus, actually a bit like some of Neil's MB ones, did you take them :p :rofl::rofl:

This is what I meant. Seriously why the **** is there so much of a gap? Am I missing something. Possibly the angle I’m looking at doesn’t help but it just looks unfinished compared to other games 41916658-DC65-49CF-86C1-2153A3AE88C5.jpeg

That does look pretty ugly and poorly designed, but the same as in Neil's pics. Now it can't be unseen, MB prices are sure to plummet!..Dibs on the first one to fall to 3.5k :D

sorry wide angle camera in a dark room on a tight (small) aperture so I can get the detail right. So you get FOV issues and the camera searching for focus and I'm trigger happy :D

Could it not be that as it was the last pin of its kind from Bally/Williams that there was originally a plan to have a bespoke scoop there, but due to cost/time/parts bin it ended up being a more generic one?

Pretty much looks like my TZ slot machine scoop.

Maybe the Cliffy (I presume it exists) covers it?

So it looks like they were planning on something slightly different; from George Gomez archive:

see how wide the back is? And it talks about opto's and other stuff.

But on the whitewood it doesn't make it:

I've asked George what was/planned/changed. Even the shape of the hole was wrong which seems nuts that they didn't go back and fix that.

Neil.

also looks like the game lost a spinner on the far left lane...

actually doesn't;'t seem so nuts, if the game was done but then had be cost optimised chances are the play fields were already in manufacture by then...?
