What is the really rare chip in the 1981 era Bally SS games like Fathom, Vector, Centaur?

I heard a rumor that they might have been used in Texas Inatruments' Speak & Spell ganes ?

Tms5200. Yea used in speaking and spell.
The ay chip is also nearly.

I thought the speak and spell used the slightly different tms5220,that will work in a s&t board but gives very garbled speech

speak and spell used an earlier version of the chip which isn’t compatible. there is a later chip that sort of works but not quite

I think there used to be some youtube videos of testing the other chip,you can do a speed mod as well,by replacing one of the resistors above the chip with a pot

that's the one,someone in the usa has made a board that uses a microsd and wav files to replace the tms chip,and @myPinballs does the remade boards with original chip in the uk

We have just got one of these. The voices currently sound fuzzier than our original board so we’re troubleshooting with the guy who makes the boards (who is very responsive and helpful).

It is great having a FG that plays film music!
