@PabloUK and @Neil McRae conscious we are discussing on someone's for sale thread so made a separate one.

So I'd be in for a group buy of 2 frames.

We could use a parcel forwarding service if litframes doesn't want to ship to the UK direct. What do you think?

I have a guy in the US. Actually he is the organiser of the Pintastic show.. so quite possibly frames will be for sale at the show this week.

Could ask him to send them…

Any idea of rough price? I think i missed the thread about them
So it's 169 USD for a frame that fits a Stern LCD/DMD or 90's Bally. You can get a full run down on the website. This excludes shipping, duties/taxes.

It may be possible to source a discount if enough are ordered.

All I reached out to Brad from Lit Frames and he confirmed that due to restrictions in his business / area they would not ship outside of North America.
I also see on his web site that orders are affected by delays so this may impact any local orders.

What he dis say is when things return to normal he will ship too UK again.

I am checking with one of the Pintastic show coordinators if they have a vendor there. He did say that Allan…. The artist who does the alternate translites is there and he has some usually

Yeah, there's not a great deal to them so surely if there are enough people after them, a company in the UK would take up the work?

Exactly my thinking Phil it’s a snap frame with led strips in it, not exactly Concord level engineering

Popped in the place as we where visiting other business premises locally and their answer was absolutely possible.

So does anyone have a lit frame or stern frame that could take photos and describe exactly what’s included and how they are put together for an exact copy and price?

Thanks

Great Job man. You are right its technically pretty basic to produce so hopefully they can solution something simular.

Only information I can source is the following:
Dimensions 34 × 24 × 4 in

so I just got off the phone with them and they can most definitely produce these.

I asked about improvements to the litframe design, I reached out to a few guys on Pinside for photos and one thing I noticed was the power cable sticks out the side!? Which for close to £200 a frame is a no no imo, so that will be something they look at and can likely machine a channel out for.

Something else they mentioned (they are a small family run picture and framing business) was the option for non reflective glass instead of plastic like the lit frames design and have the snap access at the rear instead of the front? Unless everyone interested would rather just go with snap from the front with plastic like litframes.

If I can get some feedback off everyone interested and potential numbers/interest I will speak to them again and get a price locked in but they where more than confident especially with multiple orders they could bring the cost in under litframes and provide a superior product.

FYI STERN DMD AND LCD sizes initially.

An example of their work.

I had these made by them before Covid was a thing so prices are likely higher now.

Very robust frames, quite heavy but not so they will rip your plasterboard out but you can feel the quality in them and anti reflective museum glass in both.

The reflections you can see where from them being in a dark room at the time with our kitchen and shelving lights on directly behind, glare is almost reduced to nothing.

They definitely make a quality product.

If I wasn’t so busy I would knock something up in acrylic and maybe after the turn of the year If nothing is produced I’ll make myself a proto as I have around 30 translites tucked away.
However if their price is competitive and the product super quality I’d defo be up for a Williams one.

I have a load of mini translites, would be interested in frames too. Found some on eBay but slightly too large for around £30 I think they were.

Edit....£26
Like I said slightly too large though but here's the link

I said before, there is a massive difference in quality between the PU version and the Stern version.
But in all seriousness, do you really need the additional quality?
I’m no expert if there is a long term affect of damage to a translite by the method shown above in the home brew version.
The PU version has glass separated with diffusers - mesh systems - proper German engineered sealed unit. I couldn’t open it.
Designed to uniformly evenly distribute the light. I’ve seen this in retail advertising screens before.
Perhaps stops heat spots being directly behind the translites?
Maybe worth adding a diffuser inside.
Lights on the edge, spreads light to the centre.

I am sure some of them 30 are mine 😉
