Hi fellas. I picked up a LW3 recently as the price was right and its a decent DMD game I've not spent much time with. What are everyone's opinions on this title?

I plan on keeping it for a while, maybe tweaking the flippers and maybe giving it a spit and polish, then selling it on for what I paid. First I'd like to learn the game and get to know it.

So c'mon, everyone knows the game as its not rare - share your thoughts

Was one of my first games. Was pretty crap at pinball back then and didnt fully appreciate it tbh. Would like to give it another bash one day

Love it ! the playfield layout basically rips off T2 ........... but I actually think its a superior game. Not super deep rules, not even deep .....but a good solid game...and its just damn fun to play :D Cracking movie tie in.

Had one a couple of times, and would def have another. I almost don't want to big it up too much because its the last of the cheapy DMDs (in these crazy prices time)...so ignore what I have said. It's a crock of sh*t Data East , don't waste yr time.

I've had a couple before and was suprised that they were not better received at league meets. Maybe you need to know the rules well to enjoy it, but i wouldn't hesitate to pick up another reasonably priced one. (especially as i'm so down on pin no.s) :(

yuck

Don't know why but really don't like it. Hate the artwork. Find the whole thing feels really cheap. Suspect it all comes down to the crappy "gun".

In theory it should be a good machine, great spiral ramp and lots of shooting things. In reality it leaves me cold. Thought I'd give it another chance up in Daventry and it still doesn't do it for me. Not quite up there with RS or WOF for sheer hideousness but unlikely to be given space in the games room.

Probably a good starter machine but bet you'd trade it to get your BSD back in a heartbeat

My first and currently only pin. ( not for long though). I find it's a great priced dmd, mine plays fast, but a bit easy to get multiball and not a super deep rule set. I picked up Matts earlier this year for a good price and I certainly haven't regetted it. It's soon to have some big neighbours so time will tell if it keeps a spot or gets the boot from me.

It's true that I miss BSD more than any other game I've sold, but I can wait, as there's at least another 30 titles to work through before I start getting old ones back again (unless I suddenly find I have a ton of space)

I wish mine played fast, I have the back legs all the way out, and the front legs all the way in (as always) but it seems much flatter than the rest - and is it supposed to be so tall, or do I have the giraffe legged version?

So far I'm still getting to grips with where all the shots are, but it is definitely fun. That 'Tri-Ball' that it gives you as a sympathy gift on ball 3 just reminds me of all the other DE titles (as does 'shoot 1-2-3) which is not a criticism necessarily, it can be pretty welcome. Is there a way to turn the sound right up? I turned it up in the menu but is there also a pot I can twist or something easy I can do to the speakers?

Current lineup AFM FG LW3 W?D CONGO Freddy (for sale £700)

I have standard height legs on mine but even with those at the same extremes as yours I couldn't get the level bubble right. I've had to prop my two rear legs up about an inch and it plays great.
On mine there is also a volume pot inside the coin door to the right so get it cranked up. ;)

I wonder if your front legs are wrong. My LAH was really tall and flat as the front legs had been swapped with one of my sega machines. Pretty much killed being able to play it. Stick freddie's front legs on to see if that makes it faster. I've got a knacked set of williams legs you can always have - rusty but basically still working

Yeah it sounds like you have some wrong legs on there.

Great game, spent many hours playing it in the arcades back in the day.

I've never actually played one but it certainly appeals to me. It's got one of the highest production runs of any pinball machine so it must be doing something right.

Hey Dan, I'm due to move the pins into my man den this week. How do you best utilise the space for max capacity? I'm guessing my single gayrage is similar in dimension to yours!

my first attempt was to make a scale plan of the garage and of the footprint of some pins, using cardboard. i could then happily move the pins around. thing to remember is that in front of each pin you need a long space for the glass to come out.

next time round i used some software to model it. i've tried a few different patterns (i have to also store a motorbike and the generator in my case) but ended up with 5 pins as the best i can do, without having to crawl underneath one to get at the back row

i found this:

Garage is 15’8” x 7’4” (188”x88”)

Pinball machine is 4’8” x 2’5” (56” x 29”) plus needs 3’8” for glass (44” x 29”)

Thanks Dan. I think I could get 6 along the back wall but it would be a squeeze. Plus there'll be a couple of them where the glass won't slide out due to boxing in of gas meter etc.. Reducing the width in places.

Get the roms updated to the latest version, cuts down on the 'ok, ok, ok' :-). As a few have said get it tilted higher than the usual 6.5 degrees and it plays a good fast game. The flow is pretty good for a DE game once it's setup correctly. There is no wizard mode, but getting all the movie scenes can be tough when it's playing fast.

Forgot to say, the one a Daventry was playing really slow and was no fun to play. Don't be put off by that people, there is a good machine hidden in there :)

I like how the disco ball is included in the 3D model. Priorities :)

it's called Google Sketchup, and it's free (or it was). after you download it, go to youtube for lots of handy instructional videos on how to use it. like anything else, it gets easier.

the great thing about Google Sketchup is that there is a huge free-to-use database of objects people have modelled, so once you've made a model of your room - or your whole house, or even your street .... you can see whether a to-scale Audi TT racer, or a to-scale pool table will fit.

you may be thinking that this is all very well, but there's probably no pinball tables in Google Sketchup, right? well that was the case, but do you by any chance remember about a year ago some spod was asking people for the dimensions of their machines?

see what i did, i made loads of models of loads of games. i think i did every game since 1990, more or less: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?uq=1560499543074031408204319&scoring=a

and i made these with it:

I started to use it last year and went online to find some pinball shapes, Dan has published loads. I still have a man cave picture with a Tommy in it where as the actual space is taken by a CFTBL.
Now we are looking to move and I have made a few of the houses up from the floor plans and can start to see when the pins are going.

cooldan, what is the red trolley and how good is it, looks ideal for moving pins ?
