Hi,

Bit late - but I thought I'd follow up my (much) earlier post about whether or not to use LEDs on SM...

Finally got round to taking some pictures after having given it a full strip down & clean over Christmas and the New Year. Decided not to use LEDs in the end, but have replaced the insert bulbs with filament bulbs of the same colour as the insert. The difference is quite subtle on most colours (just adding a bit more depth) - but really helps the blue and the magenta (of Battle Royal).

Also replaced the GIs with coloured filaments to better better suit the area of the table (green for the Goblin etc.).

Rather pleased with the results, and not having LEDs means that the different lighting levels of the of the inserts can still be seen...

Couple of photos (though it looks better in real life)...

Cheers

Geoff

Looks nice an bright, I like the matching coloured lighting you've used for areas like the Green Goblin - really adds to it.

In certain areas LED's look pretty cool, it just gives that bit more.

What you have done with yours looks great by the way.

I've been looking at a WW on Pinside that one of the guys has given the full LED treatment to try and decide whether I should bung some in mine. Has anyone seen an LED'd WW before, do they suit system 11 games?

He's also done a light mod for the fan topper that I really like....might have to nick that idea

I haven't seen a WW kitted out in LEDs yet, but I fitted out my System 11 Black Knight 2000 with LEDs, both in the inserts and some of the backbox. It was at the Daventry show last year. I reckon LEDs work well in system 11 games. There's very little ghosting in the inserts, and the vibrancy of the colours suits the simple layout of the games.

Fairly sure there was a WW with LEDs at the ukpinball perty last year (or was it the year before) - way too bright for my liking.

Must admit, I've yet to see a machine with LEDS that I like - find the light too bright and harsh (and usually flickery).

Thought my SM could do with them as the lights seemed a bit dull, but after a full strip down, clean (including the underside of the inserts), polish and waxing they look fine - definatetly doesn't need LEDs.

I played a WH20 at the Northern Lights event at Blackpool late last year. It took a good few minutes for my eyes to settle in. I think it was fully LED'd, and the GI seemed to flicker quite a lot.

I've kitted my table out with LEDs for the inserts, but don't want to tinker with the GI for fear of flickering. Colour matching the LEDs on the inserts is pretty essential I think. Using bright white LEDs will just wash out the colour otherwise.

I'm not keen on LED's under the inserts. Too harsh for my liking.

I do use them sparingly in certain areas of games though.

Blue ones look good in a Whitewater Whirlpool as they seem to project light onto the underside of the ramp that goes above the Whirlpool.

I put a green one behind Wesley Snipes eye on Demolition Man. Looks great.

My favourite though has to be the LED strip I have under the top mountains on Whitewater. It is a colour changing one but I have it set to red so that it makes the mountains glow like a volcano.

Agree.

Less is more - the odd strategically place LED can work wonders.

Every bulb in the game replaced with LED just looks  *HORRIBLE* imho - like some garish , psychedelic pinball nightmare. For some reason our US friends are going mad for them at the moment. Every other game I see pics of stateside seems to be LED'd to death.
