Kaneda Rumour - 'Totally New Version of' Metallica Game on Spike 3 ...

I just can’t see it happening.
Brand new version with different code etc?
Lymans existing version is a masterpiece.

As much as I like K…. he was 150% Borg was working on a Tron vault.
Where’s that, in the Bermuda Triangle 😂

A vault Met would have been the better option but improve on the masterpiece with Expression lighting inc UV art and coming in Premium flavour as the only model.

Feels like a commercial no-brainer for Stern, and they have no scruples, however I still like the Borg/Sheats version a hell of a lot though.

As part of the rumour he went on to say that Spike 3 allows Stern to add more mechs as Spike 2 apparently limited now beyond adding more lights….
Anyone know if indeed Spike 2 is near maxing out power wise?

Spike 2 can add more stuff. Needs another node board. Using 4 dip switches you can get a load of different combinations!

Who knows. It is about time spike 3 came out. Spike 2 was used first on batman/aerosmith.

What benefits/improvements/innovations do we think Spike 3 can give us?
I can make sense to go to "next gen" simply due to age. Support / availability / Price / Obsolescence of legacy HW can be justification enough to make the transition. Look at what happened during the pandemic with the chip-shortage. Who was hit the worst? Car manufacturers. Why? Legacy HW that is inefficient to produce and little to no margins for the manufacturer. When supply chain and personell shortages hit, chip manufacturers pulled the plug on legacy rather than later versions since they have higher volume and margin on these.

If BM66 was the first game on Spike2 (2016). It means whatever HW is in there is 10+ years old by now and things are starting to reach End Of Life. It's the new world.

I work on product development, mainly in Laboratory Instruments / Medical Devices, were development cycles can easily be 5-7 years. Lots of components selected early reach EOL before we hit production.

I think I read somewhere that Stern wanted to create an Xbox-live like service. so following on from that
Maybe they include more social/twitch features, a player camera on the player as they play and talk (trying to make Twitch streaming easier, but via them)
Maybe an extra screen on the backbox or allow a connection to a separate stream to allow remote multi-player the ability to view the other players game (if you wait between you go
Could have a camera pointing to the playfield just to confirm whilst playing that no cheating happening (not perfect, but better than nothing)
DLC, the ability to sell added gamemodes/code

Crikey, this doesn't sound too clever. . . . or should I say it's far too clever.

I really hope they concentrate on packing the playfield with toys and mechs rather than trying to make an X-Box on legs.

The bean counters at Stern will not be happy. Higher BOM = smaller profits, unless of course they pass that on to the customer, which they will.

Unless they make a great game that sells shedloads (GZ Prem) and then you make a bigger profit on the back end
