Ok so having recently acquired a Wonka and absolutely loving the machine it's totally let down by the lack of movie audio.
This is know has been covered before about the " fruit machine " sounds etc but in the case of wonka anyway I feel it kinda fits , but other JJP's I have had such as WoZ and Dialed In especially Dialed in the music was so terrible for me it made the game unplayable. The Hobbit was awesome.

Anyways there must be some clever bod on here , turning towards you Jim @myPinballs 🤗 others that must be able to get into the game and change the audio assets ??? Just like cleelands had done on things and others ; the code changes on JP2 and turtles are absolute game changers.

I have searched pinside and drew blanks has it been attempted?
Is it possible?

I just wanna sing along to my candy pushing kid collecting psychedelic chocolate machine

thanks mate yea I went into this one and another and tried to bump it , can see my comment is the last one 😂
Looks like it's hard to do , but it must be possible 🤷

Skimming through that thread, I wouldn't get my hopes up. Looks like Keefer has put in a ton of annoying protections...

I've checked it out too, and few things to know :
- gamecode is striped (normal) and seems to be protected in some way to decompilation. Thus, modifying the game to do something like "I have a PNG/FLV header in the file => read it directly else use the dongle" doesn't seem to be possible.
- gamecode is tied to the sentinel dongle LDK and look for debuggers. If you run the gamecode with a debugger, you'll be blocked.

Not saying it can't be done, but it's gonna be painful...

Having read the Stern User Agreement, it became clear that pinball manufacturers employ legal and digital protection because of the value of the 3rd party IP they have placed in the machine. They would need to be seen to be protecting that IP to a reasonable level, so that they were not at risk from the asset owner suing them.
In short, if anyone did find a way, and shared that publicly, I would expect a cease and desist. Those who have had one before, would not publish a second time.
I don’t have a modern machine at the moment, so can’t say how good the copy protection might be.

Pinball Browser exists and does exactly that. The thing is, people don't care about extracting assets from a pin (just grab them from a DVD or whatever), but instead want to overwrite them with better stuff than what the pinball manufacturers have cobbled together.

The legal texts are just that, and don't mean diddly squat when you buy a second hand game, it's not binding. Plus suing outside the US is going to be a pain. Speaking of which, I strongly suspect that Stern are in breach of the GPL terms (didn't see any source code offers in the manual), so not exactly setting the example...

I totally get that they have to protect it but I wonder how much they actually care ? This is just my thinking but it seems to me that games such as stranger things and especially JP2 where they didn't have the assets , I feel that they know clever bods are going to mod the game and add all the assets in so why bother paying for them let someone else do it , they have done their bit by protecting the game and can prove that so
It's out of their control.
It's like Jaws , can't imagine they have all
The cast assets probably gonna be a generic shark game with dodgy animations and just wait for the pinball community to add all the assets.
The big Lebowski the same why pay for all the original music just add your own voila the game is instantly more awesome.

Anyways I can't see it being anymore different with JJP just maybe not enough interest in their games to do it? Look how many GZ's stern are churning out , got a new GZ version dropping
Soon to anger all the LE owners some more , so I guess more owners more involvement in making the games better.

Dude you're more than welcome to tinker with my machine , and happy to represent you in court for free ... I will get you off any charges, i watch judge rinder all the time , court stuff looks easy 😂😂

My line of thought was that if a asset owner came to them, they would then aim for anyone who had published a tool or method. Clearly, I am out of sync with the modern stuff as I had no knowledge of Pinball Browser being able to do just that.

@Will2.0, your credentials sound legit. I will put your number on speed dial and hack-on with my idea.

Sadly it isnt easy. JJP will sur ya ass off.

The audio on hobbit is epic

GnR was shyte.

To improve the actual sound already there it is just a case of changing amp and fitting a crossover.

Good man , let me know how progress is and I will keep watching judge Judy

Yeah hobbit was epic ...

It's not so much the audio it's pretty good on wonka it's the lack of the actual songs that's missing.

Why would JJP take you to the cleaners and not stern?? I don't get why there is so many folk changing assets and audio on sterns yet no one doing JJP ?

1 word. Sentinel

Good luck doing anything with a sentinel dongle in place…

and pray those dongles keep working or you don't lose them. nice big paperweight for the future 😂

Yes, there is a security module called Sentinel that encrypts at a file level. I have read you can extract the entire disk image and even see file names but you can't read the content of the files. I believe this also means the system won't read the content of the files, as it is using a key to decrypt content and therefore any supplied content has the key applied and is then garbage. The sentinel system has a usb dongle which acts as the key store and gaining access is protected.
Jim is suggesting that if you lost the dongle, you lose access to the machine. Though you could get another key, assuming they are not unique for each machine. If they are, you could get a new disk image plus a new dongle.
