Once again it seems like everyone (other than me) seems to want to come to the once largest inland port in the country. Yes its time for the Swavesey Pinball Weekend 2025, and this time it's gong to be the last. Yes you read that right - I'm retiring, packing it in, making a run for the door, pulling a Christian, in short I'm taking my ball and going home. Lets face it when we started this thing nearly twenty years ago the UK Pinball Show had just stopped and it was all looking a bit miserable, so like all good planners we started drinking, and we haven't really stopped since. But enough is enough, you're all at it now, everyone is having a show and as just about everyone is younger than me that's a good thing ;)

So if you are one of the faithful, or have just never got around to attending this is your last chance to sit in a swamp and talk nonsense next to some pinball tables. In other words it's time to plan for that annual trip on the road to nowhere that ends in the White Horse car park at lovely Swavesey (I'm using 'lovely' in it's loosest meaning here).

Yes as usual I'll be starting to bother some of you, the epic folk who always help and assist - you know who you are (the emails and calls are out already) and if you don't well I know where you live 👍 We need table pledges now, just one tiny weenie, light as a feather pinball loan would be appreciated so if you can bring a table for the weekend that would be marvellous, because if you don't it's just going to be another pub full of drunks, albeit pinball obsessed ones.

As usual everyone is welcome we will be laid back and friendly because as I've always said, enthusiasm is for triers and Swavesey generally misses that demographic. There will be the UK Cup on Sunday for those who are into compo stress. For the rest who prefer the sun there's chat, friendship, free advice and, if we are lucky, sights like yellow hatted Welshmen trying for over half an hour to break an awning or a lump of glass.

All the details are here (https://sites.google.com/site/swaveseypinball/), there's also multiple posts mentioning the 17 previous shows on Pinball News.

The Facebook page is here and if you click the 'Attending' button: https://fb.me/e/8uwuqskn8 that would be grand, and if you don't want to come along and enjoy yourself the rest of us will miss you terribly because we're good that way.

Be there because it's your last chance and you'll miss these annual emails when they are gone, in the same way as banging your head repeatedly on a brick wall.

It's so easy to get to, so jolly to attend, so get it in your diary

Mark

i booked with the old shop B&B i figured 400m to stumble is better than 1.what ever miles to get lost :-) FYI it was £70.00 breakfast included, and you need to call her (Christine), the online thing she does not use so do not use it... - call her on 01954 231558. Check in after 16:00, you get a key and you can come and go as you please. Check out when ever the next day. Park in the market square.

Me and @Aid Cooper are banned from there. In the Ramada again at 70 a night.

I have a room for 2 (separate beds) booked for both nights, but so far just me in there. It's at the Swavesey Travelodge here
It's at CB24 4RE, about 2.5 miles stagger from the venue which is at CB24 4QG (and it's up a bast_ard 'gentle' hill) - at the end of the night, it's a long walk if there's no lifts available :tut: but them's the breaks, as unfortunately the nearest places doubled their rates overnight due to demand a couple of weeks ago.

Why am I telling you this? Because the other bed is available. I paid £184 as it's flexible (can cancel for free) with no breakfast, so a reasonable £46 a night each. Priority given obviously to someone I know and get on with (and who can cope with me snoring), but if it gets to the last minute I'll be less picky as i'm too much of a cheapskate to pay it all myself.

👍 It’s a mile and a half tops and there’s is no hill of any description, we live in a swamp on a flood plain 😆

Is Flagellation optional or in with the price?

It's an easy walk and you're likely to see another pinhead pass you and pick you up!

All good things end …… and the annual Swavesey event was a very good thing indeed.

I went to quite a lot , especially in the first decade . I took Space Station along one year, and Dirty Harry I think ?? another year . Haven’t made it for a good few years now sadly , or any pinball events actually .My mum still lives locally so was always an easy one for me with a free bed and a big Belfast fry up each morning 😁

Some good memories - met @Spandangler for the first time so basically life complete with that alone 😃 - and I still have the Night Moves that once lived in the public bar area , loved it so much I bought it from the old landlord when he gave up the pub .

Sadly looks like I have been to my last , a combination of pre planned events that weekend mean I won’t make it .

Thanks again Mark for all your efforts over the years.

I still owe you a pint, Phil, from Swavesey 2013-15 era

I was so in awe. I was a total n00b and you were a veteran, and we met and you shook my hand and said “pint?” I’ve never forgotten it. Martin Ayub was in on the round, and I’ve seen that he’s coming, and also spotted a picture he posted on FB today looking happy and healthy. He was looking a bit skinny recently so maybe he’s back on the bacon. Martin if you’re reading this er… you owe me £20. @PinballNews

So that’s about 80p I owe you, Phil. Good luck with that.
