I didn't want to derail the threads on what are clearly important issues for those involved.
However, isn't it a shame that politics rear their head in a hobby which really should be fun.
First of all we had the thread about competitions and now the hall of fame one.
I can't pretend to know anything about either in great detail. I don't understand about tournaments, ranking points and anything else for that matter but I do know that the row put me off wanting to be involved in any of it. What is clear is that everyone involved loves competitive pinball.
I know next to nothing about the hall of fame, it's origins or when it should or shouldn't take place. What is clear is that everyone who is invested in it loves pinball so it's a massive shame.
I might be new to this hobby but I'm nearly 50 and have seen plenty of other hobbies and pastimes go the same way and the destination is always divisive.
These things always fragment and end in splits which is a huge shame in such a small hobby.
I've seen it in fishing where there was a split following two people arguing and one failing to ratify the others tournament. The Camping club v The camping and caravanning club is the stuff of legend and has resulted in lawsuits and death threats (yes seriously
). My old astronomy club had splintered from the original one following a 20 year friendship which turned into a 10 year feud.
Honestly, there are so many examples of hobbies becoming fragmented and it would be a shame if that happened here.
None of it is worth falling out over.
Claire and David chasing otters on a bicycle and Colin trying to impress nurses by shaving off his moustache is far more entertaining.
