It's probably not that common knowledge in the pinball community that Ed Boon was the programmer behind the original as well as many of the sequels to Mortal Kombat. He also did a lot of the voices including Scorpion, Smoke, Noob Saibot, Liu Kang, Jax, Reptile, Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage, Raiden, Kai, Cyrax, Sub-Zero etc

Apparently it was going to be called either Kumite, Death Blow, Fatality or Dragon Attack. But it was Steve Richie that came up with the name Mortal Kombat.

I know Medieval Kombat was in the running for the name of MM

To be honest Williams Bally probably missed a trick not making an MK pinball .

Is there any mileage in a discussion of the best/worst video game spin-off pins?. I suppose a limitation would be that some were always rare, e.g. Defender had a very low production, similarly Joust. Though that's in a category of its own.

Returning to Mortal Kombat, don't some pins of the time give out hints about it, or is that for the sequels?

I think if you hold the right flipper button down while pressing start on Theatre of Magic you get cheats for Mortal Kombat 3 on the dmd when you spell a theatre letter.

I had an original MK2 early 2000’s, struggled to sell it on eBay for £150 and delivered it into a student house in Aberystwyth. Had to take the door off to get it in!
Gutted. Bet they had some fun with it though😎

Steve Ritchie came up with the name Mortal Kombat didn't he? Williams bought midway I think.

Edit. Lol. Should maybe read all the OP next time.

Anyway, I bloody love Mortal Kombat. I remember seeing it in the arcade for the first time in like 93 and couldn't believe my eyes. So violent and real looking. I got the mega drive version via mail order on 'Mortal Monday' and skived off school to play it. I'd love them to do a pin.
