Hi, anyone got specific notes about insurance of their pin collections (other than building contents).

My 14 machines aren't kept at home.

If anyone has specialised insurance, let me know?

I talked to my home insurance people (Halifax) and they said that since pinball machines are not high risk items like laptops or jewelry etc they would be covered without the need to specifically list them in the insurance like you would have to do with a pearl necklace. Even if some of them might be worth several thousand ££. But probably worth checking with your insurers rather than relying on me.

Mine said the same to me ( nationwide home insurance ). Last year I was going to move to a cheaper company but they wanted the pins itemised which is a ball ache if you chop and change fairly regularly.

If they are in your house then they are usually covered by contents, however have to be listed.
However if not in the main house (eg a shed/shack etc) they will need to be covered by a specialist policy.

As Sgt said - Give @ianw a shout :)

Nationwide didn't want itemised unless they are valuables. Apparently a £5k pinball machine isn't a valuable, valuables are jewelry etc up to £2.5k per item ( on my policy ). Bonkers.

not easy to "lift" a pinball machine though is it? and I cant see cash convertors offering you much...

Happy to help, our policy is extended to cover taking them to shows, and whilst at the show

We can only insure the machines if part of homeowners policy, we can also do good deals for people without machines too :)

Edit:

Also covers them loaned to someone else

On my insurance Pinball's are classed as furniture!
They know what they are and what Price I have put on them.

As they are in a cabin my policy is contents within property boundary.

Main perils to worry about are, Fire, Storm (trees falling on outbuildings) & Water damage (leaking through roofs/ceiling)

The machines are treated as contents, but we have a specific sum insured for them noted on the policy.

Yep - when I recently renewed our policy I listed them all with generous valuation. Also spoke to them and they were quite happy that they are in a garden room.

I still worry though, cos I know what insurance companies are like for wriggling out of payment if at all possible. There always seems to be some get out clause for them  ...this of course doesn't apply to @ianw :D

Theft doesn't concern me - as good luck getting them out of my garden  .....but obviously fire, flood , flipping big tree that is nearby falling on the Shack are the worst case scenarios.

Ok in touch with IANW now, should get it sorted, mine are in a very secure, safe location. Mostly worried about Fire (although place has fire alarms and such). I'd be mortified if anything happened.

Esure wanted to know 'Individual items worth £1,500 or more'. Looks like I am paying £37.84 to insure my WOZ (£9K+)

Try the co-op, i seem to remember they let me add my MM for free as it wasnt on their list of 'high end' items

mine are at my work place, i made sure that a generic value of the whole collection is agreed with the insurance company along with my actual business machines i.e. wood working machines,

I spoke to the Post Office last year about itemising mine onto the contents but they gave the same response as others have said. It's furniture basically. Not quite sure how I'd prove that they ever existed if they did get stolen as I don't have receipts for them. A quick google on the subject seems to suggest making a video of them with recognisable surroundings would be a good idea e.g. walking through the front door and showing them in situ

I'm interested to hear not about who has them insured but who have claimed successfully.

Insurance companies won't hand over say £6k a machine that easy.

In the past I've actually repaired flood damaged pins. A whole collection in fact. But they were individually listed on his policy BUT they wouldn't buy him new games

Fire is my big worry especially considering the fact stern make some of them ;)

Anyone actually had the misfortune to have to claim? My main fear would be fire or a falling tree on the ones kept in the shed.

Anyone on the south coast should insure against dumper trucks, fireworks, spears, Matts head, pickaxes , Dan etc ..........accidental damage should cover it.

Regrettably we didn't have this Space Jam insured.:D
