Hi all,
I've been working on a topper for my IJ. Had the idea a while back and with the flurry of Topper activity recently I decided I needed to get this done and out there. I'm really happy with the results - the print quality is excellent, and in my opinion all that is needed for something that you stand 4feet away from. The last thing to do is add lights that will illuminate the angels from below. I was thinking of linking these to flashers but I'd really appreciate any opinions on the best way to go about this. My only thought is Matrix bulbs, but if there's a simpler way then I'm all for it. Not sure what toppers usually connect to?

Any feedback welcome. Once I've sorted the lights I'll consider offering these for sale, but will be small batch initially. Just gauging interest.

Cheers

That is awesome dude, looks superb. Out of interest is that my old Tron still there?
Cheers guys,
Yes it is huggers - love it. Has a custom (old school) daft punk mix, and the full Redshift led tubes. I have a few mods in mind for that one! I've gotten to Portal a few times now, but now that it's basically a daft punk music pin I can't see myself ever losing the love for it.

Ah that's awesome mate, glad you're still enjoying it, great game/theme, even more so with added Daft Punk I imagine!

Looks great and I would be interested.
One possible thing I considered. This is clearly the lid of the ark, would you consider making it smaller and having the box too or does that make to complicated? I can imagine it would start to get quite high also which is an issue in some games rooms.

When I had my IJ I was looking at these from Israel on eBay, but never really saw a good size. Looks great!
Very smooth finish, not sure thats from a 3D printer unless it’s been hand finished. Nice gold as well.

I don't have either IJ pin anymore but if you produce these I'd still buy one! Looks amazing! Just a thought but what about having it propped up a little with colour changing lights under to replicate it being blown upwards?

Wow - is that 3d printed????
yes it's printed on a Prusa Mk3s. Taken a while to figure out the best way to segment all the parts for assembly and get the best finish. There is no paint or finishing - this is the print material and how it comes off the print bed. One of my things was to make sure there was minimal or no finishing, otherwise these would just take SO long. As it is, the print time alone will take a week of solid printing before assembly (for each one). And obviously the sculpting and CAD have taken a fair while and multiple revisions to get right. Really appreciate all you comments though. I'm trying to figure out a price and will update when I've decided.

At one stage I was thinking of a motor that could lift the lid! HA! Not that realistic I think. I also wondered if you could have a projector that projected the 'ghost angels' on the ceiling. I think what would look good would be hidden light strips on the inner edge that light up under the angels (I did a test with my phone light and it looks pretty spectacular), but I need to hook up the light, and that's not so much my strong suit so need to figure that out. Thanks again for all the great comments.

Quick Update: Had loads of interest in this and typically the supplier I used for the material has dried up. I'm testing out some other materials and making sure I can get enough (a challenge given what's going on with our boarders and brexit) and once happy with the options will show more info and a price.

In the meantime, I really want to find a way to integrate the lights nicely but need some help/advice. I chap on pinside suggested an LED controller board hooked up to the LED strips would give controller over having the lights pulsing and maybe changing when jackpot is lit. Sounds awesome, but I don't know how to do that. Any pointers on where I should look?

Thanks

P.S I'll get back to all the PM's once I have the material and a cost.
