Hi folks has anyone imported a single machine from the usa? I’m guessing yes , I have no real knowledge on the subject but would like to hear any stories of how you go about it and costs thank

Hi Alan , can I ask did you have to declare the value to the tax man when it landed and dare I ask what the value of the price of the machine was ? As in what was the tax a d what was the delivery cost ? Thanks sorry totally new to this process

New or used? If used then your best bet is go with someone who'll import a container full.
New, well that's different.

Used , I have read slot if people have simply had them sent via air freight in less than 36 hrs , can this really be done ? Door to door?

Hell if you can afford it, probably! If you're a Lotto Millionare all of a sudden I want to say what a lovely bloke you are.

i had to declare value to the shipping co and they then calculated the vat. it was just over £500 and the shipping cost was approx £2100. that was to collect from a place in small town mid america, transport by road to an airport, two flights to uk, then pallet delivery by road to me. at the time i felt it was a fair price and easy to arrange.

Also don't try to declare a lower value to avoid VAT or you will be screwed on the insurance if anything goes wrong

Mine wasn’t as bad as Alan’s it was around 800 usd for the shipping and around £800 for taxes

I wouldn’t ship a pinball machine via air without insurance.

Hey Neil so when you say shipping you mean air freight ? And is insurance included by the delivery service as in DHL or fed ex ? Sorry for the daft question this is just primary looking into costs , anyone have a preferred company -/ I think this job might be to big for retro logistics ;)

Theres a thread over on the UKVAC forums for a regular container run, they tend to sell their own source cabs but you can get your own cab sent over to be included in a container, I think its something like £299 for the container including Import taxes and then a $200 I think outside cab fee but you also have to get it shipped over to the guy in the US first. Not sure if there is a limit on the value for the £299 shipping fee or if its done to a certain price per container and hoped it balances out.

And then you have to pickup from Arcade Clubs storage once it arrives in the UK.

Link to the last container thread that just filled up. http://ukvac.com/forum/ac22-shipment-usuk-299-we-are-full_topic383885.html

Yes but when it doesn’t turn up or disappears no one takes responsibility

Have been forwarded details of a chap called Bob Cunningham who can pack store and ship the machine, anyone familiar with him? Thanks

The biggest problem you will have is finding a seller who is prepared to wrap it properly and load it on a pallet. Once it’s palleted there are plenty of freight forwarders who can ship for you door to door, including insurance. Shipping by sea is cheaper than air. Ship LCL: less than container load. With COVID, shipping rates are expensive, but freight forwarders can often fit an item to fill up a container. Deal with your own UK freight forwarder, not a US one or the sellers. If something goes wrong you want to deal with someone local. Ask for quotes door to door. Shipping codes are confusing so be sure your quote includes everything.
