How to avoid getting dragged into the FOMO of a new release or even a pin that pops up on pinfo.

So after chatting to another pinfo member he told me how a pin he recently sold went to 6th dibbs!
I have sold a couple in the past that have at least reached 3rd and even 4th Dibbs!

So is this a FOMO thing or a typical bloke thing of buy now and suffer the consequences later.
The consequences being:
Having to tell the wife/partner 😂
Lack of room once the penny drops to where it’s actually gonna fit in.
Buying without funds and expecting to sell your Gillian’s Island to cover the cost of your prospective purchase of a super minty TZ or IJ 😂

For me Avoiding the FOMO of a new pin is easy nowadays due to price and financial climate.

On used stuff I generally have a chat do the deal and pay in full. Then realise I suffer from the room problem and usually loan the pin out until I can fit it in and decide if it stays or goes.

How do others manage FOMO apart from turning off your internet or putting thr for sale thread on ignore 😝

I look in now and laugh sometimes, was caught up in it and coming out the other side now.
An addiction that is costing a lot of money and sometimes marriages, ok while prices rising but……… New prices😂
My son said to me a while back that I was addicted, says it all really.

Now, I found a way of chilling a keg quick. That’s another problem I need to kick🫣🍻

No fomo here I still can’t understand why there are people fighting for Le games on release when you can have exactly the same game premium for £4500 less
I also think pre covid you always got messers taken me many years to learn most of the tyre kickers but when covid comes if you wanted it you have to make an instant decision as it would have been gone
Things are now back to normal maybe even worse where you are now going to be losing à considerable amount on a nib pin
And people saying that if you bought a mando ie or avenger s today it would cost you £11500 but nobody did everyone paid £8500 for them nib less for earlier models and people who got in early on gz only paid £6500 or £8500

Have you ever had a situation where you didn't buy a machine straight away @Colywobbles, but then couldn't buy it at a later date (either new or used)? I've never had that situation myself, so the idea of FOMO in relation to pins just seems alien to me :hmm:

😂 Don’t worry I’m clock watching, kegerator would take 24/36 hours to get 2c depending on keg size. First time trying this as it’s a 30 litre keg (normally 50) of Mahou and they fit in the chest freezer, just hope I can lift it out☺️
From the thumbnail I thought it was a shaker motor! :D

You probably should have posted in this thread.

I’ve been pretty bad for fomo/ impulse buying so far, including having to get the garage converted because I bought too many machines! I think getting messed around on my last 2 sales (not by the eventual buyers who were both great) and the general slow down in sales has made me think I want to consider what I buy more in case I have it for longer than I anticipated.

At a squish I’ve got room for 8, although that’s only 3cm gaps between backboxes and 1 wouldn’t be in the row so would have to be moved to get the glass off 2 others. 6 means they’re all in a row with just enough space for me to get down the sides if needed. Currently I’m at 5, so doing pretty well at holding off the fomo even though I have space. Check in after Venom reveal 😆

Did you go in on a Pulp Fiction?

There's been a few new releases where I thought for sure I'd go in on one after seeing the release videos, but a week or two later I'm glad I didn't, so for me I need to leave it a few weeks to see if it's one I still really want.

I've been tempted by Pulp Fiction purley because everyone is seemingly raving about it, but I'm happy to wait until home reviews are in and they are ready to ship.

In hindsight I would most likely have ordered the BMF version as I doubt you will lose much money on it, if any at all.

Always sat on dry powder and there’s a few that have come up, but with the prices as they are, I’m not in a position to put a cheeky bid in.

After making the incorrect decision to turn it into something more than a hobby, it took the love away from it, as I was juggling lots personally and a growing full time business and this. Coming back into it now, solely as a hobby, the market has moved.

A second hand LCD pro being £5k - £5.5k to what, now some on here at £7k for a used pro. Falling demand, and many with a mortgage locked in to 6% interest, for those that hold one. I imagine liquidity is a concern for many, with interest levels liquidity is a factor for many.

Just over a year ago it seems, the £5k LCD pro prices meant a pin was a fairly liquid toy. I always found when I had a premium or LE to shift, you’d be waiting a little longer to move things. That £5k shuffle meant I could move between most stern LCD pros pretty easily. So that’s what I did.

It’s not so much FOMO now really, as with most who can drop up to £12k on a game, you have the choice to say “I can have that if I want it” (not saying I can on NIB, but in the main second hand games) and whilst you may want one. I wouldn’t call it fear that you can’t have it. I look at it as, “not this one”.

Several ways:

1. Play A LOT onsite. Then, you only end up owning the pins that you already play to death on location. Most pins simply aren't that exciting if you play them regularly, especially if you're playing at a venue with a whole bunch of other pins. There aren't that many pins that I want when they're benchmarked against another 30/40 I play regularly on location.
2. Make the hobby about something more than owning stuff, e.g. do some renovation or competitive play. Then, you can only buy new things if you've finished existing projects, and you get the social contact and excitement without (much) money being involved.

And... that's it, really.

There was a time on here not so long ago where a decent pin at a decent price would sell within minutes. Which leads to people having to make snap decisions for FOMO

I think FOMO has now been replaced with FOLAF when contemplating buying a pin, which is slowing the market down for anything that isn't sensibly priced

If a game is good, then Stern will run it and run it again (See AC/DC)
My second last NIB was Ironman, It was not until this year and Godzilla that I decided to buy NIB again

My strat is wait 1-2 years until everyone inevitably gets bored of their NIB purchases and pick it up used with all the issues ironed out and for a cheaper price.

Hasn't failed me yet.
Looks like a deal was done earlier on a GZ Prem so if you're patient enough you can get your hands on pretty much anything it seems. I recently bought an FF Prem NIB as its THE dream theme for me but thats my NIB itch scratched and will happily wait for anything else to hit the right price (for me).
