How many plays?

I read in a recent thread about how many plays a huo pin had and whether it was realistic etc and thought I’d look into my own.

I checked my LOTR because it’s the same stern era as the pin mentioned so would have a similar audit.

Now I believe mine to be huo also due to good condition, no coin mech and past posts on here from previous owners etc.

The total plays are 2415. Which works out at 127 plays per year.
(2003-2022, 19 years. 2415 divided by blah blah).
Total balls played are 5753.

To me that sounds pretty huo kinda numbers.

Makes no odds to me but just interested in thoughts as it seems to be a gauge on provenance of whether a pin is huo or not.

You can never be certain on any games of
White star Sam or early spike games don’t forget if you do a software update or change the batteries then this will zero the audits

Didn’t realise this. Thought that was true of B/W but not the 2000’s sterns.
So guess it’s a case of …. Trust no one 🧐😂

I used to worry about the play count when buying a pin, then realised its lack of maintenance that ruins a pin rather than number of plays.
My Metallica has around 7000 plays, it came from abroad, but it’s been well looked after and looks amazing still. A pin with zero TLC but low plays would likely look older and more tired.
Shooter lane damage is an obvious tell tale sign, but even that can be cleaned up and made to look tidy again so that wouldn’t put me off.

Half an hour play for me ,would probably mean 20 plays or something , because I am a sh1t player , but from a good player that might mean only 1 game . So you could say one of my nibs will have more shooter lane damage than the playfield if you want to be picky. For me it’s all about the playfield and the machine being well maintained .

Average ball time then number of balls will give you a much clearer indication of how many hours use it has had.

Number of games isn't the way to judge the amount of use.

Theres only one thing that matters and thats condition.

Aside from scoops/shooter lane, im not convinced its even possible to cause any major playfield wear without neglecting a modern game.

I’m fortunate (like quite a number of members here) to have a few machines set up and playable at the same time. When I have an evening in the pin shack I normally have one or two games on one machine before moving to the next, most evenings I play, and that’s typically maybe twice a month, I don’t play every machine in one night. Consequently I have two modern machines, with just under 300 plays on one and just over 300 on the other. Maybe this is undeserving , maybe someone more needy should have them, what I do know is like many I just don’t have sufficient time.

Chris.

Maybe sounds obvious but the more pins you own the less play they get.
I play a few games most days but bearing in mind I always have 6 working and a couple in reserve so individually they get very little play after any honeymoon (currently FT)
From memory I would say last week my lineup got the following:
GZle - 0
DPle - 0
GnRce - 0
TFTC - 5
Met - 15/20
FT - 20/30

This week ive only played FT & TFTC as working on met upgrades. Once FT honeymoon is over I will get back to approx 10/20 random games a week max unless I have pin friends descend on me. Pinball is far better with a little competition and not nearly as good alone.

I tend to get caught up on one or two games. I’ve probably played less than 10 games on LOTR in the last 2 years. MB is probably a similar amount. Elvira has probably only been turned on 5 times or so in the last 6 months.
TWD and GOT will be at the other end of the spectrum and are currently my go to games.
TAF will be neglected for 9 months and then roar back into position as my favourite.
Mind you I don’t think I’ve played more than 20 games in total since October. The pin mojo is massively lacking

Its so easy to firmware flash and wipe the history I really don't care about the total plays. Even modern Sterns up to point didn't keep their play count after an update.

Its better to use your eyes and just inspect the usual wear spots (shooter lane, VUK holes trough area etc).

The Indiana Jones I have in at the moment looks to have less than a 1000 plays on it from new.
Inside of the cabinet looks brand new.
No pinball dust on the loom.
The playfields' immaculate

So true. Don’t think I’ve turned Iron Man or Tron on in nearly a year (they a bit less accessible, but still set-up). Sometimes I wonder why I own them at all if I don’t get time to play them, or at least I don’t use the little spare time I have to really enjoy them fully. However, when I do get an itch, and an hour after work maybe, then they’re the perfect distraction.

I’m so glad it not just me with FishTales. You’ve got 3x £10k games sitting there idle while the simpleton from the very early 90’s takes the crown. Starting to think I just need FT, TNA & IM - short simple games, and screw the rest of them!
