How did this happen. Shattered glass

That dodgy neighbour of yours!

Maybe temp?

Oh man that’s bad luck, strange one 🤷‍♂️ I was thinking temp but can’t be surely especially with a cover on.

I changed all my glass to the one’s Neil gets in, Ive had a heavy baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire fall from the top of the backbox onto the glass twice now and frightened the life out of me and the glass is fine. Secured properly now though☺️

I know it’s not funny but you ARE going to be finding glass for the next X number of years.

I dropped a back glass for AFM about 4 years ago. Every so often I stumble across another pile of the bloody stuff. How on earth it’s scatters as much as it does no body knows.

Good luck with your clean up job.

Well I guess the good news is at least the cover kept the glass contained in the game :(

Slowly piece by piece and a good hoover for the tiny bits and I think you’ll be OK. I'd suggest temp made it expand, its the edges that shatter this so my first suspect would be the downward parts of the lockdown bar not having beer seal on them.

Started to pick out the big bits and hoovering the small pieces. It was due a bit of a shop, well no excuse not to now. Off this coming week on holiday, so maybe do a full strip and clean. been collecting and fixing for nearly 35 years and this is the first glass shatter I have had, so can't complain I guess

Glass usually breaks when a corner gets nicked or scuffed.

Oh well - it is a major job to clean all that up - you will be finding pits under plastics and in subways for a long time.

If you're going to have a Lucile, make sure it's a functional one.... as well as a topper.

Temp glass / safety glass can just go on it's own, especially if it's old. All the knocks it gets in it's life time build up and then just all of a sudden it just explodes.
I have seen it first hand where a sheet of old glass leaning up against the wall just exploded all on it's own. I feel your pain in the clean up that's going to take ages and please take your time as the glass shards can damage your playfield so try and vacuum as much as you can without touching the playfield. Like what's already been said you will be finding bits of glass for ages afterwards.

I’ve got a sheet of glass that’s just been leaning up against my outbuilding for the last 20 years that was from an 80’s pin that seen all the Welsh weather has to throw at it and still survives.

Is this just a excuse to show off your whitewater ;-)
Seriously though I’m gutted. Had glass shatter on a pin during transport. Kept finding shards of glass months after, gets everywhere!

Micro cracks, which I have never heard about before.

It may appear that your oven glass door is shattering spontaneously, but it’s usually the result of lots of micro-cracks developing over time.

The majority of modern ovens use tempered glass. Tempered glass is a type of glass manufactured in extremely high temperatures and then rapidly cooled. This process makes tempered glass around four times tougher than regular glass.

However, unlike regular glass, tempered glass may ‘explode’ when exposed to continuous stress. Unfortunately, micro-cracks resulting from stress are not always noticeable — until the glass is no longer able to cope and shatters into tiny pieces.

Any impact on your oven glass can contribute to these micro-cracks.“

Broke quite a few pinball glasses over the years but usually when removing and catching an edge. Used to say feeling rich today and found a Bucket of diamonds.
Never once in 30yr have I had one implode/explode for no reason though and dropped several tools and mechs straight onto them a few times.
That said I nearly always replace my pins glass if they old or scratched I can’t handle playing through manky old stuff.
Could it have been the original glass and just had enough of life so committed harkari

Quite possible, I know the feeling!

I had a glass, which I replaced, toughened yet it had the corner missing. Weird that wasn't enough to blow it to bits, so maybe it happed early on in life. I can't say I really knew about micro-cracks.
