High end restoration

That man has a lot of different sanders
biggrin-1.png
Can't wait to see more vids.

That man has more sanders than I have t-shirts!

On a related note, I just spent 15 minutes watching a guy sand.... Where did my life go so wrong??

WTF?? Am I missing something here? That looked like a perfectly good cab to me. Sure, if something's a shed then sand away but that wasn't a shed, and I'm a firm believer in not removing all the life, soul, and more importantly history from a machine provided its not too bad. It's all the worse to see screened artwork being removed and presumably replaced with decals. Unless he's going to screen new artwork onto it. But I doubt that.

Nice sanding maybe, but I'm not desperately impressed.

I kind of agree ...if it ain't broke and all that .....but there are plenty of customers Stateside all too happy to pay HEP serious money for a seriously insane (over the top ?? ) restore/rebuild. Thats the thing about any hobby I guess - you can decide to what level you want to take it.

High End Pins do some amazing stuff. just take a look at their online album, but you must have to be seriously wedged and/or want to own an immaculate machine to go through the process. It seems there are plenty of people who are both - I must admit, I'm not one of them...

Mr Hutchins can be a little anal with some of the stuff he does, The one that got me was all the crosses on the screw heads where all in line.

Now that to me is wrong as some would be under or over tight which is not the correct way to do things.

Still most of his work is the best I have ever seen.

Guess what he's getting for crimbo......................yup a shiny new sander

but I think a good respirator would be a better gift.

Not if he went to the extremes of filling the holes to the exact desired depth before he screwed them in. Now THAT would be anal....

Some cool new vids on the High End Pins Youtube channel. A tour of Chris's shop and then a 2 parter showing him unboxing and reviewing TF LE Decepticon edition.

Hi Everyone! 1st Post!

Does anyone know how I can access his videos? He seems to have them mostly hidden from public view on Youtube despite me subscribing. I used the above link to watch his first Transformers video but can't access the second. I assume he has all the others hidden similarly?

Chris's stuff seems to get locked up after its been shown for a short time. Loads of his links on RGP are dead ends. Sorry for the non helpfull post.

Welcome to the forum anyway.

He posted on Pinside to say that he'd been getting abuse over some of his vids on Youtube so he's hidden most of them. He just puts up the odd new one now and again but a lot of what was there has been made private.

OK. Thanks. I've messaged him on Youtube. See what he says. Isn't it a bit silly filming all that though and then hiding it just because there are some people who are being nasty about what he does?

I think some common sense is called for on these things, it's a wooden box with stickers on it for christ sakes not a precision skull implant

He may just have had a rethink on the wisdom of revealing some of his methods. In case someone else starts up a rival high end pinball machine restoration business, makes millions and rules the pinball world !! With daily broadcasts to the massed geeks wanting to know the best way to polish a screw .........the answer as we all know being 'get a frickin life' of course
biggrin-1.png
Which has got me thinking actually ....

I did start wet'n'drying a slightly corroded screw head at the weekend but then realised what I was doing and had a f*cking word with myself

Get a bench grinder with polishing attachments. Then you'll still be sad but with way more time on your hands....to polish other random pinball bits. I'll get my coat...

Quickest way, big wire wheel on bench grinder, did all the MB and IJ metal just so, saves messing about with tumblers, polishers, compound etc + on a hot day it creates a nice cool breeze, what a Bruce'e bonus that is, screw in one hand, ice cream in the other
