DE (some others will work) Alphanumeric display needed in working condition.

Mine just crapped out
Thrown its gas out of the pram!

Thanks

Fix it with an LED hack, I took a Williams sys 11 display with 4 bad glasses and converted it to LED use for approx £20, only tested it thursday night it's now in Tel Boys F14 to see how it holds up over a few weeks use.

I recorded a video which can be seen here:

It was a fair amount of effort (approx 350 wire links) but if I/you had some PCBs made it would be dead easy! I need to do a write up but basically, you replace 24 resistors, 7 chips and cut 3 tracks and add three jumpers, the rest is just wiring up the displays. I the only thing I need to do is to measure how much current it draws on the +5v compared to a standard display.

I don't even own a sys 11 game, just did it 'cos I can. (though the board can now be used with my sys 7 test fixture to test sys 11/DE games. :-)

Dave - I recon if that proves successful you should produce those - There's gotta be a large market for them, especially in the USA!!!

Definitely cheaper than a PinLED at £140, I guess the target price for a kit would be £30 - £40, need to find a slightly better LED as well.

The bonus is that you get to keep the 7 obsolete chips to use to fix other displays, I fixed a lile of system 7 ones with the chips I removed :-)

Know anyone who can make 2 sided PCB's in low volumes cheap?

Also does it matter that the displays only have dots rather than commas?

I can live with dots!

I have a contact that I gave some daytona parts to I will get in touch with about the pcb's.

If you can design whats needed I should be able to get them made.

Alpha numeric or just numeric?

[Edit] Never mind I just realised the OP says it's Alpha-numeric, sadly I have no spares of them only 1 or 2 numeric :-(
