Has anyone got a pin inside a Skoda fabia?

I'm considering taking my DE JP to pinfest but I have no idea if it'll fit in my car. It seems like a lot of effort to get it out the house and have a trial run and also a bad idea to try on the day and then fail.

I've got a Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo hatch , so I'm wondering if anyone has had experience putting a pin in a fabia?

Cheers

I suspect you'll have to take the backbox off (it's not as big a deal as you think). Check that the cab will fit in the boot length-wise first.

I had to remove the backbox in my old 2002 Golf estate. Only needed an extra couple of inches of height though, so your Fabia may be better.

For some reason I never thought of removing a pins back box to fit in a car. Would I get one in the back of a Golf you think?

If you can remove the rear seat bottoms so you can fold the rear seats flat then yes as that's what I did in my Polo and I've had all sorts of games in the back of it. The latest Polo (and I assume Golf) doesn't let you easily get the seat bottoms out so I'm restricted to games with small heads (like a Gottlieb wedgehead)

I guess removing the backbox is the solution, just being new to pinball still I suppose the first time is the scariest...
I'll have to refresh myself on all the connections to see how much faff it is.

Thinking about it, I'm still going to need room for two people and luggage so it's looking a little futile!

Just need the motivation and opportunity for someone to help with a trial run. Seems a bit last minute to try right before leaving for Pinfest then getting stressed out 😂

Mine's a MK1 Fabia, EM's easy peasy. WPC yes but with the head off.

Yours is a MK2, innit? I'd still have thought so.

I think it must be a mk2

Take several photos of the inside of the backbox. You can write with a sharpie on each connector - e.g. CJ2 for CPU board J2, DJ6 for Driver board J6, etc.

When you put it back together, the cables remember their shape and won't easily go in the wrong place. All the connectors are keyed too, so you can't plug them wrong.

It's really not as tricky as it seems. Plus if you get to pinfest there'll be loads of knowledgeable folks to help you anyway :)

My experience is this.

Check if your connectors are already labelled and if they are, than check they are actually correct. If not, mark them and check them, just to be sure.
Connectors are keyed if the original IDC. Old machines might have a few hacks. Also, a few cables can go in more that one place and that is often not an issue. J121 and J120 for WPC as an example.

Take pictures to help but I find the loom has a memory, so once a few are in the right place, the rest are close by their home.

It is daunting the first time. I am now working on a machine and a board has been taken out daily. Your post reminds me how nervous I was the first time.

Oh, by the way if you and your passenger are 6' & well fed you'll REALLY struggle! I was on my own with my Gilligans Island which also went in there on another trip and the seats were right the way forward. I had to take the wheels off the sackbarrow to get that in the car. I'm 5' 6" and skinny and breathed in for 150+ miles.....

Now a Skoda Octavia, that would have made it easy. Good luck either way & yeah, plenty of photos (as mentioned above), masking tape & mark the connectors, cut nothing! (We've seen plenty of that...) :/

Good lord 😂

I'm probably not going to bother, considering I won't be able to drive being over 6ft 🙄😁

Soon you will be buying cars based on their suitability for transporting pinballs.
