Ok my 1st foray into the strange and wonderful world of Gottlieb albeit I’m sure a pool one passed through my hands may years ago which I payed a handful or times and moved on as it didn’t float my proverbial’s.

Anyhoo I digress, there’s a couple of things that just don’t quite seem right.

Table in question is Mario.
The whole cabinet seems to sit very high in comparison to my Sterns / Ball / Will to the point my 11yr old needs a bunk up.
So are these the correct legs and is there a median angle for the Playfied or is it personal preference. BTW I like my sterns 6.5 deg

There is also a crackle through the speakers every now and again that is a little annoying but it comes and goes.
Is it worth updating the speakers as I do intend making my own custom speaker panel anyway so it’s probs a good time to do them.

May thx in advance Col.

I think Gottliebs should have 27” legs over the Standard 28.5".

I've got a gottlieb cab I've used for a Vpin and always thought it seemed a bit high and now it's next to a Williams 80s it looks really obvious, had a check and it's got 28.5" legs on it.

I think the cabinet itself is also slightly deeper/higher, just measured and it's about 1.5" higher compared to my jungle lord at the front.

Worked on a load of those mario pins, not my favourite.

I do normally put in bally/williams flipper assemblies.

Also rebuild the voltage regulator pcb and the amp, I would re-cap.
Can you sort these for me Phil and is there some sort of earthing thing you do on Gottlieb’s of this era to bulletproof them.

Looks like you've standard B/W legs on there, so it will sit higher than it should.

My 80b’s sit higher with the correct legs not sure on these, put some platform shoes on😂
I had an Operation Thunder and rebuilt the flippers, kits not cheap. Have one flipper rebuild kit left over if it helps. Different feel but flippers ok to me.

Mario is system 3 so the ground situation is much better on these. system 80 and earlier including the best 80b has ground problems

Your legs are wrong they are ribbed so williams. gottlieb legs are smooth and shorter iirc

Check your 12v and 5v feeds first. As phil says you can get it rebuilt, change it to a fixed 5v version or get one of my 5v regulator replacements. It may be ok though as its using minifit headers on system3

History lesson:

All Gottlieb EM games from the 50's to 1976 (until Spirit of 76) used 31" legs.

Starting from 1976 and until 1995, 27" legs were used

(exception - Haunted House (and maybe Black Hole) used 27" at front and 31" at back.)

is your solution. :)

Yep, both are normal Col, I had the same issues on my first pinball, Street Fighter II.

They have a certain play that is unique and not everyone’s taste, but I like them and you never forget your first!

Glad you got it in the end Col, Gottlieb's do tend to sit a bit higher than other games in a lineup, my 80bs look a little silly next to anything else (more reason for me to only stick with Gotts!) Those are definitely not Gottlieb legs on that though you'll want 27" legs or perhaps just a little step? haha.

From what I read that's correct about Haunted House but Black Hole had the same length at front and back. I don't remember if 27 or 31 though.

Here’s another query is this correct as it looks like a glass channel and it should be the other way round?
