Hi all

I have a really silly question that I cant seem to get a sensible answer for. I am working on a friends Tropic Isle she tells me that it has been in a damp garage for years. Every relay score reels and selectror unit is corroded and seized so I have a lot of mechanical work ahead of me. I am trying to determine the input voltage of the thing before I attempt to power it up the transformer says Gottlieb A4277 on it and I suspect it is 110Volts I only hope and pray it has not been powered up. Can anyone please confirm what the input voltage to this transformer is

Thank you in advance. Richard.

On those early games the transformer wasnt a multi tap input like later games where you could switch between 115v and 220/240v. So if its USA model will be 115v and if it's been made for UK/Europe market, it should be 220v

I would disconnect the outputs from the transformer to the rest of the game and plug it in, then measure the 2 AC outputs. One should be 6v for the lamps and the other will be 25v for the coils. If you measure those voltages its all good and is a 230v transformer, but if you measure 12v and 50v then it's a USA model.

This is the transformer on my Gottlieb Square Head (a year younger than Tropic Isle).

I believe the A4277 is a 110 v transformer, but if the game has been operated in the UK or Europe it may also have an aftermarket step down transformer fitted.

If it does have a 110v transformer, it likely also has a 60hz motor, which you'll need to swap for a 50HZ one if it is going to run at its intended operating speed for counters
