thanks fubar

It won't be cheap by the way! I had a wireform and a couple small bits done and cost almost £400 including transport & VAT.

Honestly don't bother. Dealing with gold plated Indy was a royal pita. They scratch super easy and are finger print magnets.

Unless you're going white gold TZ is going to look weird.

Just go for mirror polished rails if you want cheap bling.

You'd be better going for something like this, will not wear like Gold would either :-

In terms of value maybe its just me but the idea of gold plating and probably chroming adds nothing to the re-sale value of a machine in the vast majority. (i chromed the handle on my FT and expect that to add no re-sale value)

Case in point the TOM up for sale with "gold plating". Personally id say just take it all off, put standard rails and legs on and its got half a chance of moving at a realistic price. Or just sell as is at a sensible price and except it was a waste of time
from a monetary stand point.

Trying my best not to derail this post here, but there's plenty of pins on here not selling. Not just the high priced ones.

There's plenty of market for high end restored and powder coated pins. Just not on this forum.

Powder coating is one thing, but the cost of gold plating and chroming VS what it adds in monetary value has got completely disproportionate. (not surprising with precious metals at near all time highs)

appreciate theres a market for high end restores but people are paying an extra couple of grand over market value because a pins got some gold plated parts??? good on them its obviously just me then,

Nothing wrong with doing it for a keeper for your own enjoyment i guess as ive done in the past.

I personally wouldn't, was going to do this for my old LOTR, gold plating isn't very hard wearing and had other issues in a pinball machine. Your best to go with a different process that looks gold like. I can't remember what it exactly was but could maybe dig it out if you wanted, some forum members advised previously

I don’t think it would have been zinc plating.
Zinc plating is very cost effective when compared to chrome and gold due to less labour needed to prepare the metal.

So is great for large batches, however due to the way the metal is prepped, it doesn't give you a finish good enough for legs/armour etc, but is perfect for mechs and those kind of parts.
