i have a DE Rocky & Bullwinkle that is missing the Nell mechanism to move the

log, and a search of about 30 pinball parts websites has led me to the

conclusion that i'm **** outta luck.

basically i need a motor (which i can see for sale on three sites plus US ebay)

and a gear/pulley mechanism (which several people are looking for but nobody

has). it's just a round cogged plastic thing about the size of a £2 coin, but

with a thingy attached for a drivebelt to ride on. i bet there's loads of people

that could make one if they really *needed* to, like it was a missing part for a

baby kidney machine or something, but where does ordinary Joe go for this, when

it's just for a toy?

in this modern age, is it still unfeasible to clone a plastic part without

spending a fortune? is 3D printing still out of the reach of the common man?

does anyone know anyone offering such a service?

any and all thoughts welcomed

is 3D printing still out of the reach of the common man?

3D printing might not give you a part that can survive for long, it;s good for prototyping but not so good for stuff that needs to take some stick in a pinball machine. If your able to get it remade in metal then you'd be sorted

Do you have the part number?

Is it not best in the long run to purchase the mentioned motor etc from ebay US?

Speculate to accumulate.

the motor is part number 041-5023-00 and is available from Marcos for $79 or Bay Area Amusements for $69 or eBay.com (will only ship to a US address) for $59, among others. the problem is not the motor, i'd be happy to pay for it. here it is:

the problem is the gear/pulley/spring assembly that the motor turns, that spins a rubber belt (also available for a few dollars) to move the log up and to spin the nearby circular saw that threatens to kill poor Nell, attached to the log by the evil Snidely. Ian kindly sent me a picture of this gear/pulley/spring assembly from his R&B:

a couple of hours in Google told me that several people over the last few years have had the same search as me, and they were all told that these bits were nowhere. my favourite quotes were "that's unobtanium" and "you have more chance of finding Bin Laden in the sea".

so there's no point in me buying the motor and belt unless i can find a way to get hold of the gear+pulley+spring, and unless someone out there has a stockpile from a broken up R&B or has old NOS DataEast parts (someone said they had it, but when we compared his photos of the parts to the parts off Ian's game, they were nothing alike)...... then i have to have the parts made from scratch.

i've successfully mould and casted some video arcade spare parts on an economical level.

for example, this is a plastic tool with prongs and spanner.

using the same piece of kit, i have also managed to repair something that started out looking like this:

i guess with a broken cog, i guess you can repair the existing one or try and make a mould with it and then cast the entire thing.
