Gameplay similar to … cftbl

Hey guys,

I love the gameplay of creature from the black lagoon - to me it feels like a really fast, slick game with quite intense gameplay with little let up and (for me) a reasonably challenging game with frequent drain. It keeps me coming back for more again and again for short intense games.

It got me thinking, are there any games out there with similar gameplay to creetch? And has anyone ever tried to broadly categorise the different types of gameplay of different pins - for example Williams indy feels like a comparatively slower, more complex game, I’ll generally have a couple of quite long challenging games.

Interested to hear if this chimes with anyone and would love recommendations to match cftbl.

Thanks.
Harry

It's a good point you make about similar types of pins. It would be interesting to come up with some sort of categorisation beyond "flowy" or "start-stop", or maybe even a "people who liked this pin also liked this one" type of thing for every different title.

Funnily enough I was talking with @drhex the other day about Creech and the fact that it is one of those types of games where you have to hit various shots a number of times to make something happen. Creech is a beautiful game but this type of game I find rather tedious. Similar tedious games include the very dull Metallica (hit the various shots a ludicrous 15 times to start some sort of multiball), Stranger Things (mercifully you only have to make each shot four or five times from memory to make something good happen, which is something, I suppose), Attack From Mars (which is a great game despite being boring) and Cactus Canyon.

The long and the short is that if you like the type of game that I find boring then you might love these snoozefests. And of course one man's snoozefest is another man's keeper, so don't pay any attention to my views. Except about Metallica

PS I am only down the road from you Harry, so feel free to come by any time and try some of my current lineup!

Creech is a very unique game. So hard with that 2-ball and takes no prisoners, but with a very satisfying F-I-L-M sequence with many ways to get back on the saddle fast.

BSD has gotta be up there. So tough but so rewarding for like 1/100 games when it all just clicks into place and you feel like you can't loose

Forbidden Planet is in part a homage to CFTBL.
Designed by by the same person.
Backglass has Robby holding a girl (creech is the monster holding the girl).
In attract the Starlite drive in sign is a direct homage to the speaker panel.
Spell KRELL in sequence is an award.
Has Move your car (directly approved for use by the designer).
