I've got various bits of 4" plastic pipe, ideal to make an evaporust soaking tube, for long bits of metal such as lock bars, receivers, legs, and other lengthy pinball parts. You just need to seal up one end!
The tube pictured on the left is my evaporust tube, with an end-stop blanking fitting on the bottom. These are a few quid from any builders merchants or on-line.

LMK if you want one. I'll bring to pinfest. Collect there.

Yes, if you also have the end-stop blanking (otherwise, I’ll have to find an end-stop blanking the right side, which will be a faff) :)

At least there isn't a premium for Black. Unlike in some Vw circles, where a 'scene tax' seems to apply for interior fittings such as body-pillar trims or courtesy light/sunroof switch in black rather than whitish or grey.

That should fill it fine @VeeMonroe. You could use solvent weld https://www.toolstation.com/search?q=solvent+weld+glue, if you really want to seal it in.

Now why is everyone so eager to buy Alans old soil pipe, what is the life hack I am missing?
Can you solvent weld those flexible/push in types with the ridges? I'd thought that if you wanted to use solvent-weld you should use one of the flat faced thermoset plastic types like: https://www.toolstation.com/110mm-socket-plug/p25629

I think a solid one and welded fit would be better for this application anyway - with legs or whatever sliding about inside it, a soft push fit one risks being damaged and causing a leak imo.

And it's a cross-over from Vee's shop log (or one of her several other posts on seemingly pretty much the same topic :hmm: :D) where Alan suggested filling one of these with evaporust to clean rusty lockdown bars / legs.

Good point, I saw polypropylene and recognised it as a plastic but it doesn’t work with solvents.

You fill the whole tube with evaporust? Then I would worry the bung isn’t going to grip enough with the weight of the leg and the liquid.
This sort of thing looks safer:

Everytime I have a technical problem with my restoration that can’t be resolved on YouTube or by Dr Google (which is frequently), I post a separate question on the technical forum. Not everyone is reading my shop log (nor wants to)

Honestly, you get a bunch of people complaining that young people nowadays don’t have DIY/technical skills and then, when a (middle-aged) person attempts to learn something, they’re accused of asking too many questions :rofl: My day job is in technical journalism, so the only relevant skill I actually have is asking questions!!

Yes, it’s for cleaning long thin rusty items, like receiver bars, without wasting Evaporust (which is expensive).

Where did everyone get their soil pipe end cap from? I ordered one from eBay that was linked on here and it’s (marginally) too small.

I think there are internal and also external
end caps.

There is also a push fit one with a rubber seal inside it that fits over the end of the pipe very securely.

I bought this as a single unit. but it’s actually a double ended connector with a black blanking plate in the end
